Game crush on start with message

Hi, the game fails to run with the message:
"Unable to initialize Graphics system.
Video card unsupported."
I tried reinstalling the geforce driver according to the FAQ page and still nothing.
I tried installing the game as an administrator and still nothing.

What should I do ?

My video card is Nvidia GeForce gts 250. It has 1 GB ram so it should run the game.

Thanks for helping me.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

I am afraid that card generation (the 200 series) is pretty old (2008-2009).

The minimum requirements demands 1GB ram card, which I have, you should have state clearer demands.

Is there a way to make it work or should I ask a refund from GOG?

I have made a bare bones settings.ini file for you to try:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/settings.zip

Unzip that to:

\Documents\My Games\Star Control

I do not hold a lot of hope for that but it is all I can offer at this time.

Still the same result. I wonder if there will be any other solution possible soon..? Are the R&D team working on it?

Perhaps nothing for that generation of card (again, it is rather dated) I am afraid.  More modern cards are rather affordable if that is at all an option for you.

One more thing I want you to try:

I want you to set your desktop resolution to 1920x1080. Then go to:

\Documents\My Games\Star Control

Open settings.ini (notepad) and set the following:

gameWindowWidth = 1920
gameWindowHeight = 1080

Save and try to reload again.

Hi, it's me again from different account.

The screen resolution was already set to the parameters above and the settings.ini file contained the parameters you said to put so

I had to do nothing.. and still game won't run.

I'm getting the same message, but I'm running a GTX 960. Tried resintalling, clearing the ini, revalidating the files through GOG, same deal.

Ok, then change it to something else, for example:

gameWindowWidth = 1920
gameWindowHeight = 1200

And the same for your desktop resolution:

For each and try again.

Tried for each screen resolution the windows offers (changed it in ini too) but nothing seems to work.

And you are getting this exact message, Slayer?

"Unable to initialize Graphics system.
Video card unsupported."

Yes, the same message for all resultions

Ok, I was confused thinking you were the 1 with the Nvidia 960 - you have the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250, the very old card.

As you can see here, I do expect it to work for him because of his much newer card:

I just can't say that it will for yours (and seemingly is not).
