How Do You Feel About the New Windows Design Compared to the Old?

I remember using Windows Vista back in the day and Windows 7. I remember how much I loved the Aero Glass theme that Microsoft released in an update. Everybody was talking about it and it got really good feedback. Then Windows 8 came out they switched over to the "Metro" design concept. I don't know, in my opinion I didn't really care for the new design I rather missed the old Aero Glass look. They stated that some of the reasons why they changed it was to increase performance on mobile, ARM devices, and older computers. However as time has passed computers/ARM devices have become more and more powerful in which I believe the old theme would barely or even have any performance impact at all. I honestly don't believe those were the actual reasons why they did it.They did bring back some of the aspects of it in Windows 10 with it's fluent design but it's still not the same. I know I'm not the only one who missed that look, I've seen plenty of people who say so. How do you guys feel about the new look compared to the old?

Nothing Microsoft does will ever get me to stop using Windows 7.  The look of the UI and overall functionality are far better than Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. Now, if they make a Windows 11 and make it look and function like Windows 7, I am all for it! :)

Totally agree! It feels so odd using universal apps especially for the settings. I'm so used to doing everything in the control panel. Windows 7 was the best of em all! I'm really happy that the Stardock Design team created the Diamond theme for WB, it's an exact replica.

I loved playing with Win 7 and when SD happened I was like a little kid let loose in a toy store. It was easy to use, I never got lost and there was no need for all the bells and whistles they put into 8 (a freakin' disaster) tried to fix it in 8.1 which wasn't all that bad once WB was installed because flat is just flat, no substance. Then along comes 10 and its still flat! Not too mention buttfugly. Thank goodness I got SD to cure that. All those UV apps I got ride of save three. Turned off or disabled a lot of stuff and I got it where I want it. You couldn't tell the difference between 7 and 10.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. :P

Of all the OSes Microsoft put out, Win 7's UI has to be the best... though after a while it too got stale and needed dressing up with ObjectDesktop and CursorFX, etc.

Win 95 and 98 were okay but flat and in need of customisation.

XP was a bloody awful rip off of Fisher Price and it was essential to be customised.

Vista looked okay but after a while it needed dressing up to avoid UI-boredom.

Win 7: the best to date UI-wise.

Win 8: what was MS thinking with no Start Menu and that damned panel full of damned apps?

Win 8.1 was better but still needed work to make the UI acceptable, more pleasant to work with.

Win 10: Oh no, back to the Fisher Price look and a Start Menu covered in damned apps and advertising.

Of all the MS OSes, Win 10 is the worst on so many levels.  Sadly, for many, that's all there is these days.  Thankfully, some 3rd party developers have created software that removes many of the worst features of Win 10, thus bringing it back to a half decent, less bloated OS

I agree. The Vista/7 look is futuristic (trying to imitate real objects). The 8/10 look is meh, a flat version of Win 9.x and I say that as someone who liked the Win 9.x look.

The problem for MS is that they "had to" get back to a flat look because of HiDPI screens. Even fluent design is flat and uniform to scale well.

I have always wondered how HiDPI works with WB. I imagine skinners create one size of their graphical assets and that these are stretched at higher DPIs, but I don't know.

I think we are all children of our time and change is inevitable. I think wincustomize.com is one of the most beautiful sites on the Net. I'm sure younger people would say it looks old and they would prefer a flat, black&white and minimalist site. I have seen many of those and they are super boring. But they scale well. Windows 8/10 is designed the same way.

For mine, MS didn't have to do anything to scale anything.  The flat screen look was an easy cop out and not enough effort went into keeping the Aero look.  It was so much easier to go flat and take away opportunities for skinners and others who gave Windows a decent appearance, that way there would be fewer demands on support for 3rd party related issues.
