Black Background - build 10.0.17744.1001

Black

I have the logs from the stardock support took ready to go, where do I report them? It was working until today, when I loaded and it is all black, no matter what scape I try. Have done the purgebat and fresh install, still not working on windows 10 build 10.0.17744.1001

thank you for the quick reply! I have already done both, same thing. wallpaper just goes black.

Hello,

Could you try normal jpg wallpaper. Is it still black. Or only those video type you having problem with?

Pls try uninstall deskscape and apply windows normal wallpaper. Will it work?

So you mean that you having problem even without deskscape installed? Than you have a corrupt system problem.

Please try the following:

-For Win8/10 Users: Open the Start Screen, and type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator' from below.

-For 7 Users: click Start, in the start search field type 'cmd'. Right-click on the search result and select 'Run as administrator'.

-Type: sfc /scannow

-Wait for the scan to complete (this can take several minutes)

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

If the SFC finds errors, but cannot fix them, please also run the following command in the same command prompt window:

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Some help on how this looks should you need it:

The above command should assist with replacing any damaged or problematic system files. Please note, however, since it may require restoring certain files, this process can take some time and you will need to be patient until it has completed.

Hello,

Follow the instructions give by basj in reply 7 first.

when done to insure  your Deskscapes run properly you should

update your Codecs , you can get the download here https://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

thank you for the replies, but no I do not have a corrupt desktop. Descapes 8.1 was running fun until the most recent windows 10 update. I can set wallpaper just fine, but after uninstalling, reinstalling and even running the purge bat file, it just goes black when selecting any wallpaper from descapes -- albeit black or a video. don't think I need to install k-lite but that was a good suggestion I guess. many thanks all I'll just live without.

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

You should update your Codecs , I'm the number one Dream Maker and

know what's best for dreams .. give it a try .

If you don't try reply #7 not much we can do to help .

Sorry, need to come in again. Just wondering, you said above that you still have black background even when you already uninstalled deskscape? Is this true? or I misunderstood you?

are you able to show us a screen video of your desktop problem

when running deskscapes and not running deskscapes ?

post a link back here for us to see.

You said you were running Deskscapes 8.1 it should be 8.51

can you make sure you have that version running, please.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

It's odd when you disable the dream on your desktop you see the dream running for a second before the

wallpaper comes back up.

OK plan B ....... Lets try a few things

1 - make sure you did install the KLite Pkg. https://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm

2 - download and install these Lav Decoders https://www.fosshub.com/LAV-Filters.html

3 - can you first download a couple of My Dream ( AzDude ) and play back and see if same problem

never had one of mine do that go black .

Make sure when you install these items you reboot your computer before testing .

Then make another screen video .

Let;s get this fixed today !!!!!!!!

Hello,

Add one more thing to try above , find any video in WAV format and drag it into

your dream program/folder ( follow this link to your dream folder ) 

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\Dreams

 

It's a video not a dream format but a WAV video will

play in deskscapes just like a dream when you click apply .

I like to see if that video plays on the screen without going black or is it just the

dream formats going black.

As stated in the first post here , mostly as an FYI the purge thing was the first thing I did. Then it was suggested to install codecs - which was a good suggetion but did not think it would resolve. it did not. I then wondered if it was graphics drivers, they were recently updated. I am thiking it was something that refcently changed with windows, as it stopped working with the last update. I came here seeking where I could drop log files. I appreciate all the suggestions and quick replies but I am just going to uninstall and wait it out. Not sure what windows changed, but pretty sure it is an API issued of some sort.
