Will all members eventually be able to view the WC downloads, or are those going to remain hidden permanently?

The way T-Man put it, its only for them and not the masses.

I see the problem. With no log in, there's no way of telling if the downloader was actually 'here' or not.

Maybe T-Man and his 'wizards' can come up with a way to prevent 'hot linking' (Is that what it's called?) to prevent that offsite linking. That might save a lot of bandwidth.

Depends on your point of view.  From our point of view, no.  The reasoning behind this is that you do not know what your ranking is until the next day.  With the previous system you could monitor your daily downloads and then towards the end of the night you notice that you do not have enough downloads to make it on the top 10 lists so you start downloading just enough to get you on the list.  Now that you cannot see the numbers that make up the Top 10 list it makes it more difficult to cheat the system.

That sounds fair T-man, would it be possible then to display these WC downloads the next day in the relevant categories?

Why not require a user to log-in to download? A lot of sites require this.

Nobody can cheat the system, unless he is an admin.

Try to download as many times you wan't a skin or a wallpaper, it doesn't count it but only one time.

In the other hand the authors that appearing in the Top Author's list are only a few, well known and the same persons for years now. Is this an accusation for those authors???

Hmmm. Curious. Is that an accusation?  As far as cheating the system goes.... I wish our system was that bullet proof to where it could not be cheated.  Holes in our system have been exploited and I am sure will be exploited in the future.  For you to make that statement is rediculous since you have no idea as to what goes on behind the scenes.  I have spent way more time than I desired going through log files and data learning how people are abusing the system and have seen the data with my own eyes that shows how the system has been abused.  Just trying to make the system better by closing some of the holes in the system.  That's what I'm talking about.

Why are you upset? If you did nothing wrong then why worry? You should be glad that other evil skinners are prevented from stealing your precious downloads. There are people in this world that do ANYTHING to become number one. You and I may find that such is odd and scary, but sadly enough it is a reality on this site. T-man and the Admins (sounds like a 60s pop group) is just dealing with the facts. You cannot blame them for that.

Looks like you once again imply intentional misconduct. You should not do that. Why should you. You have nothing to fear, don't you?

BTW, Adni18. The fact that you do not know how to cheat should make you feel better. It just means you are likely not to be one of those who do. I am a programmer and can imagine several ways to cheat without much fuzz. So, it is a good idea that those gaps are closed. If I can dream them up, so can others.

We can't cheat the system any more than any other person can. Yet another ridiculous accusation aimed at the people who are trying to protect you and make the place fairer for everyone. You people make me laugh sometimes.

I have to say that someone must be brave to post in the Message Board, he or she, is in great danger to be accused, if you know what I mean.

This bickering is pointless. The original system was open to abuse, the new system only counts a fraction of total downloads. Somewhere along the line someone is going to be unhappy. So either live with the new system or ignore it. It's certainly not worth getting worked up about.

I think that if you log-on a cookie is placed. I never logoff...So when I go to the site I am automatically logged on....Now, when you start your downloadslurper and your skincountcookiedeleter in a sequelbatch you just have to sit back and relax.... Just a wild guess...

There are several ways to cheat. Most of them look innocent. And lets hope they are innocent and are not intended to cheat. It is more or less the same as updating skins and walls to get a skinner in the "Newest addition list". People in that list have a slight advantage over others. It will influence the top author list. Of course you have never used it that way, but it gives you an idea how easy it is to manipulate the downloads.
