Can we influence and shape the galaxy?

here is my question / Suggestion

In the original Star Control / Star Control 2

Fighting Enemy fleets had very little affect on alien territory and the map

I was wondering if you are going to make it so destroying / clearing enemy fleets from systems will remove enemy presence from them and give friendly forces options to expand into that territory

This will give the user a feeling of progress in the war

Just a suggestion (if this is not already implemented)

and make fighting the enemy worthwhile beyond getting a few credits

Been wondering this for a while.
Asked it more than once.

Strangely difficult to get anyone to engage on the topic.

I don't know either.

As far as I am aware, the topic is a bit hush-hush on exactly what you can do when altering the galaxy. However, I do know that there is the potential to help specific alien species grow or shrink depending on the actions you make, or in some cases, the inaction. I know for a fact that some races will have their borders shrink and wither with the passage of time. In addition, the more races you align with, the more ships will be moving to-and-from Earth.

I wish they would come out and say it's hush-hush: "No spoilers! Sorry!"

That'd be disappointing, but far less frustrating than silence.

See, that's part of the problem: "the actions you make" is very non-specific.

I'm certain that the actions we take in dialogue, in quests--both main and side--will have a lot to do with the shape of the galaxy... but what about actions that are taken independently? Not a quest, not chatting with aliens...just going full-on Destructo-Mode™ against one empire or another...can that change the shape of the galaxy too?

It's little details like that which I'd really like to know...or be told I won't get to until the game is released and I try it. As opposed to this darn silence!

From an expectations point of view:  Your direct actions won't have a massive effect on the galaxy one way or the other.  Your actions will affect things a little but not cosmically.  You are, after all, just a single ship.
