Windows 7 Windowblinds severe slowdown.

I have indulged in a new M2 for my i7700 / Gigabyte GA-Z270 board. It is blisteringly fast...... until I install Windowblinds (7, 8 and 10 tried)

It is a new drive, a fresh install of Windows 7 with NO other software installed. The evidence is simple. I install Windowblinds, the machine slows down, I uninstall Windowblinds and it's like 5 seconds from power on to desktop.

 

I have been using Windowblinds for as long as I remember and don't wish to stop now, are there any settings I can apply to stop this severe slow down?

Hello..

Please let us know more details such as Windows 7 version, GPU, RAM etc etc.

and please let us know what is your boot time with WB10 installed with skin applied.

Machine spec is i7700, gigabyte ga-z270x-ultra gaming, Graphic nVidia GTX 980 Ti, 24Gb Corsair DDR4, Samsung 512Gb M.2 and Samsung 850 EVO 1Tb SSD with Windows 7 Pro.

Boot time without WB is in reality 7 seconds, WITH WB it increases to about 29 seconds (sits on the welcome screen simply staring at me!)

Well... I am not sure what others boot timing be but my Windows 7 Pro boot to screen blazing slow at 50sec :'( compare to yours 29sec. Anyway, what I would suggest is, to try a purge and reinstall steps, just to solve if anything goes wrong on your last WB installation. https://forums.stardock.com/486023/windowblinds-support-faq#reinstalling

I have re-installed, four times I think. Made no diference.

I moan about the 29 seconds because I've just spent almost a grand on my first decent box in 20 years, was over the moon about it's incredible speed only to be stumped by my favourite piece of software.

Hello Tony...

WB, as with any app that runs at boot time, will increase the time to some degree. WB (the service) is, by design, changing the whole UI look of Windows itself - is only natural that it would add some time to the boot.

That said, if you ever move to Windows 10 (just a better performing OS currently), I would be interested in what times you see under it.

Thank you for the reply. I did persevere with Windows 10 for almost a year but upgraded to 7 as being the latest version of Windows that I have at lease some degree of control over. Sorry for the negativity.

I'll just have to either bite the bullet and put up with it or ..... hmmmm, I can't even say it :(

Tony, 29 second at each boot you will never miss. Isn't 29 seconds worth the great look WB brings? I will answer, YES. Smile.

A little update:

A friend of mine mooted the idea of disabling the nVidia service. I tried it and whoa....... it worked. I have tried to find exactly what this service actually does without success, but I haven't lost any usability nor noticed any side affects so I'm a happy bunny. Everything now seems to be running perfectly.

It calls itself the "NVIDIA Telemetry Container", and I have since read during research that the vast majority of nVida users will disable it imediately because it benefits them none.
