Can't get WindowBlinds to work on XP

"This version of Stardock WindowBlinds has expired" error message after installation

Hi, I'm setting up some old computers for retro gaming, some are just DOS or DOS/Win 3.11 combo, some will run Windows 98SE (and I'd like to get WB 3.5 to work in there) and one of them is running XP with SP3.

As far as I know, WB 7.1 is the latest version compatible with XP, but when I install it, I get the following error:

"This version of Stardock WindowBlinds has expired. Please download the latest version from www.stardock.com"

Whenever I click OK, or the X to close the dialog box, I get redirected to Stardock's WindowBlinds download page, I tried downloading the "latest version" as the error message implies, but (obviously !!!) it's not compatible and doesn't install at all.

Now, how do I get WB to work on that PC, on XP, just like I used to back when XP was my main OS ???

Since I discovered it, WindowBlinds is a main component for every XP installation I've ever used and I can't stand anymore the sight of the Luna theme D:

If you bought WindowBlinds for Xp  it will show up in " My Downloads " in your Stardock Account

that's where you can download it from other wise not available anymore.

I don't think the older version of WB(under/included v.4 which probably the last version supports XP) is available for download/purchase.

PS,I have old versions copy though (3.51-5).

If your Object Desktop membership is expired, you are not going to have access to the download. That is why it's recommended to backup installers before your membership expires.

What if I renew the Object Desktop membership ?

The latest WB version supported by XP is 7.1

From the account you are posing under, your Sub would have began early 2015 and I think we were on to WB 8 by then (WB 8 and WB 10 are the only ones I see you have activated as well but those records to no go back that far).

If I also turn back your start of your sub, years prior, all old apps available when it would have been active show.

That said, If you renew your sub Ill make sure you get WB 7 on the account.  Just know we cannot support it if it does not work as expected.

Thank you, I'll let you know as soon as I can renew my Object Desktop sub :)

Pardon my bumping this thread but might it be possible that I could have v7 added to my account too, please? I am currently a subscriber but am in the process of renovating an old XP rig and found out about the incompatibility as well. I was under the assumption that old versions weren't given out but then I read this thread and now I'm hopeful! :pout:

If it was available on your account when any OD sub lapsed, it will be again once it is renewed.

That said, we cannot make it available for sale if it was not.

Thanks for your reply. I presume elia had purchased v7 previously then? I have versions 4 & 5 but was just hoping for the extra features available in 7. Oh well, it was worth a try...

Odd, I had object desktop since 2004 or so, if i check my account, it only goes to 2013. I don't see any older versions of windowblinds or other software. I wish older versions would show up, it seems to me that we are forced to go to windows 10 no matter what we have paid for.

I hope you get this sorted, but it is well documented in the forums that it is your responsibility to save your old installers.  Stardock can't keep every old copy of outdated software stored forever.

Always download all your installers and archive them for cases just like this.

windowblinds 7.4 works on xp and vista yet. I still have the last version that works in xp. I can't send it due to copy right reasons. Unless stardock gives me permission to. It would need to be activated by your od key.
