How to begin and grateful for tips how to master the game

Not a beginner but long time not played any RTS

Well hi there folks,

just as the topic title says. Please post some tips for a fresh start right into the game.
I played in the last century C&C - still the best in memory :) - than a long there where no real good RTS for me.
Maybe AotSE is a game worth trying. But hey I don't want to fail at the start. So I am grateful for some hints and some shared experiences.

Thanks so far
DK

1. Resources.  The main key to this game above all other hints is managing resources.  Keep your build to what you can afford to avoid falling behind on production.  Maxing the production value of your power generators is more important than massing units.  Build upgrades when you have resource surplus, not when you are in a deficit.  Scale back/pause production until your resource production is gaining.  This was a mistake I made when I started playing.  The game will let you queue all that you want, but if your income can't support it, the production lags severely.

2. Always be building Quanta generators.  As soon as you can build them, build them through the entire match/scenario.  Always be upgrading logistics, attack, and defense.

3. Expand as quickly as possible. More generators = more resources = more/stronger units.  Defend your conquered generators with turrets.

4. Build anti-air turrets and/or fighters to defend your nexus in the early game.  The enemy AI and ESPECIALLY human players will hurl bombers at you very quickly.  Make sure you can defend against them.

5. Quantum jammers.  place these often to eliminate orbital attacks. build a good coverage net in your territory.

6. Scout the enemy with air units or cheap, disposable frigates.  Knowing what your enemy is doing allows you to react accordingly.

Hope that helps.

It's actually okay to be slightly in the red for income. What you don't want to do is be super in the red for rads or metal, that means you are starved for one of the resources. If you are rad-starved, don't go air, instead build amplifiers to get more rad income. Check your total income to get a feel.

Learn to use artillery cruisers and don't throw away units to static defense. The AI builds a ton of static defense everywhere, whereas players will still turtle some but only in a few locations.

Thank you both for the starting hints.

What do you mean with throw away?

I don't scrap any units, mostly they are gone before I could recycle them.
Why should I build units and place them staticly on one position? Don't see the AI doing so.

I think he's saying that you should destroy static defence structures with artillery instead of attacking head on with units.

Weew, Falnass was hard to master when you forget to build up enough anti-air.

But there are any hints for mastering the mission on Astorius?
Started and stumbled after short time. Athena is to strong, or maybe I need another tactic for the beginning.

Taking the generator in short time cost much of units, I am low on ressources at this point and the attack of Athena wips me out.
