Multiplicity Primary stays disconnected

When I add the secondary computer thru the Primary Seamless tab and check the connection it says Multiplicity was able to connect to the Secondary computer.  But the system tray icon for the Primary is gray and shows Multiplicity (disconnected).

I've tried all the solutions on the following FAQ pages but it still doesn't work.

Any suggestions?

Did you add the machine to the seamless grid?

Yes.  On the Primary computer I added the secondary computer to the grid and checked the connection and it says it was able to connect.  But the icon on the Primary computer still shows gray and disconnected.

Bumping this thread since I've ran into a similar problem. I use Multiplicity primarily for work and just came from a job where i had no issues (have used the software for almost a year now). Now that I've tried setting it up on the job i came to the Multiplicity is greyed out (disconnected) in the parts tray. I'm still able to pick up other computers on my network but I am unable to mouse over to them

Thank you! I've tried everything I can really think of. Uninstalling and Reinstalling. Using wired and wireless connections, the problem only exists on my primary computer. I've tried using the hot spot on my phone to see if it's a network issue but I've had no luck. Any advice on the situation would also be appreciated.

Update on a few things I've also tried. I ran the purge_MP.bat as admin and rebooted my laptop, then downloaded MP from my account on stardock. I disabled my firewall, MP is still greyed out (disconnected) still . When I switch my Primary computer to a Secondary, it connects to the network, the Icon is blue and says Multiplicity. Switch it back and its blue for about 20 seconds then turns grey and says (disconnected.) Its been super frustrating. I'm able to search for all the computers on the network and in the seamless window it appears that they are connected but am unable to mouse over.

When I switch my Primary computer to a Secondary, it connects to the network,

This usually is a VPN one end or a firewall issues on one end.  I can't recommend these steps enough:

I had the same problem.  Here's what worked for me.

1. Verify that all computers appear on the network.  One of mine did not show because the network sharing option had changed.  I don't know why./

2. Remove the secondary computer from the grid (completely).

3. Add it back using the IP address not the computer name.

4. Shut down both computers.  Not restart but shut down.

I then rebooted my router and started the computers and everything was fine.

Maybe this will help someone in the future. My issue with primary being disconnected all the time seemed to stem from having two wifi connections. My computer was old so I bought a USB wifi adapter to use. Both wifi's were running, and once I finally disabled the old one, no more Multiplicity connection problems!  Edit: I think I spoke too soon, the primary computer still drops the connection frequently.

This problem has been happening to me recently.  I'm going to try xsouperman's solution and will come back with sad news if it doesn't work.

So I tried the proposed remedy and it worked temporarily, probably because of the computer reset.  But it eventually happened again, and I think it's related to the Multiplicity service, which may be crashing?  The only Multiplicity process that was running was "Multiplicity 64 bit helper".  The next time this issue occurs, I'm going to try restarting the Multiplicity service and will report back if that worked.

Sad to see after all these years that this problem still exists. The original PC I had when I first bought Multiplicity years ago, worked fine with no issues. Then about a year ago I got a laptop (Transferred Multiplicity rights to it) and the program never worked, greyed out and disconnected, despite using this forum thread for ideas.

A month ago I got another new PC, transferred MP rights to it, and same problem. Program is greyed out & will not connect. I've bypassed my VPN & Firewall, made sure network sharing is on & this PC is discoverable by others on the network. I have another PC set up as a secondary machine and *that* one is active.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. It is best to create your own thread, since this thread has been up since 2018, lot has changed in the OS and in Multiplicity itself. Also please include details on your system such as full Windows version and OS Build number on all system and Multiplicity full version numbers. Screenshots might also helps.

Thank you,
