Is it Possible to Add Modded Races into Other Mods?

Hey all, me and a friend have recently gotten into sins of a solar empire Rebellion more, including the excellent modding scene involved with it. And we had some interesting ideas, but no idea how plausible they may be. I have only a very minor background in modding.

My main question is this: is it possible to take a base mod - say, sins of a galactic empire or sins of the prophets - and add races from other mods into said mod? The idea being that you can have the races of many different SciFi universes without completely merging the mods.

Is this at all possible? And if so, how would one accomplish this?

Thank you all for your time

I've been lurking around here a while, so I'll take a stab at this. I welcome an actual modder correcting me on any points.

Short answer: technically possible, yes, but not really feasible to do.

Long answer: You would have to have the knowledge of an experienced modder to resolve compatibility issues. Several mods overhaul the vanilla factions in a conflicting manner. It is also possible that some TC mods overwrite the vanilla faction files to implement their modded factions. Starting out from zero, it really is not worth the trouble. Getting this working in Sins isn't as simple as some other engines where you can just edit a config flag to tell the different mods to call each other's files. The few Sins mods that have a degree of modularity in toggling active loaded factions were designed to support that feature from the beginning.

Also, the Sins engine is old enough that it suffers from a memory access cap. The most recent patches built in large address aware, but that still isn't as much memory access as a 64 bit program. Most mods don't go above 6-7 active factions with different models for that reason - if you like to run with high settings or large fleet sizes, stability may force you below having more than 4-5 active in a map at once.

Your only real options are Star Wars Interregnum for Star Wars + Vanilla Sins, Maelstrom for Vanilla Sins + Original races, or Sins of the Fallen/Sins of Kobol for Vanilla Races + Battlestar Galactica + Original races. That is what is available.

In so far as you want to combine multiple Sci Fi universes - I recommend Stellaris. It is much easier to combine multiple mods and ship model packs in that engine.
