Fleet Battle Beta 0.71: Welcome the Phamysht! (Released 11/30)

Hello!

As a special post-Thanksgiving treat, we are releasing a new ship from the Phamysht!  They would consider it rude if you didn't allow them to eat you.  We have also done a game balance tune up and fixed bugs.  Read below for details.

Summary

  • Phamysht (new ship) It would be very rude not to let them eat you. They have the following attacks:
    • Charbroiled - Single-fire shot that roasts enemy ships.
    • Invitation -- The Phamysht make a series of very polite requests. Nearby ships' crew immediately disembark and floats towards the Phamyst ship for "dinner."
  • Gameplay balance pass based on community feedback
  • Player-created ships are much peppier now
  • Bug fixes

Invitation -- The Phamysht make a series of very polite requests. Nearby ships' crew immediately disembark and floats towards the Phamyst ship for "dinner."

"Hey look, we're on the guest list!"

"No, that's the menu..."

The Phamysht appears in my multiplayer games to be a very good ship.  It has a very fast-firing 'snipe' kind of shot that can cause problems to many ships from range.  And if they manage to get close, they're going to take damage in the same way The Measured attacks up close except the Phamysht can also use its attack to gain health as well.

I couldn't tell if you could do this from the games but I suggest the ability for The Phamysht's opponents to be able to pick up their own crew back up if they manage to fly over them.  The Phamysht already has the advantage because the crew floats towards its ship, so it would be nice if there was at least a chance to recover your crew.

That's how they should be working now.

Hi guys! Just played a few rounds! Without going into specifics right now, the gameplay has improved tremendously for me...keep up the good work!

  • There's still the issue of the mouse pointer not being hidden when play start, so it just sits there.
  • The menus are still not navigable using a controller.

I'm not sure about the mouse pointer, but the controller navigation is in the next build for sure (playing with it internally now!)

Is it just me, or is my Phamysht's charbroiled shot just ghosting right through my enemy and not causing any damage?

That's good news!

A few other things which could be improved:

  • When playing a 2-player vs game, the action continues in the background while one of the players is selecting a ship. It would be better to pause the action, or slow it down a lot, else the ship still on the battlefield drifts into the asteroids or into the planet etc.
  • When a 2-player vs game concludes the screen reads "You Won" or "You Lost", but player 2 is a person too!    Perhaps rather say "Player 1 Wins" or "Player 2 Wins" or something along those lines.
  • A casual 2-player match should have another mode where ships do not cost any points...It's often fun to load all the available slots with a particular type of ship...Yes, it's not balanced or fair, but is should be possible, because it is fun.
