Aiming with Mouse

It's always been a Star Control thing to use the left and right arrow keys to aim (or 'A' and 'D' in SC:O's case), but I feel this aiming scheme is outdated since the original games were released when PC gaming was predominantly 'keyboard only'.

That said, I'd like to ask if mouse aiming is something you guys are planning to include? i.e. Right Click turns ship to wherever the mouse pointer is (and remap the ship special ability to another button, Spacebar perhaps). Of course, the ship's maximum turn speed still takes precedence to avoid 'twitch shooting'. This way, players can be sure where their ships are aiming before firing their weapons and preserve much needed battery points. This also throws luck out of the window - I mean, half the time I perfectly land shots I felt I was just lucky.

It's always been a bummer to use trial and error firing shots until your battery runs out at the moment you need it. This also gives complete confidence when you unload all rounds at an enemy ship without feeling some shots were wasted - if you miss it's your fault, not because you were unlucky.

Honestly, point and click will remove the fun from combat.

Have you tried using a controller? Quite a few players report it is far more enjoyable and easier to control.

You'd actually be at a big disadvantage trying to play with a mouse (or a joystick).  Gamepad and keyboard are "equal but different" control methods for a game like this.

In Subspace, for example, the two players widely considered to be the best 1-on-1 duelers in the world were "Indra" (keyboard) and "Mushroom" (gamepad).

Indeed making motion of the ships mouse based would be boring not to mention really frustrating.

Nope. The controller is worse than the keyboard. Then again, I'm not really into controllers
