What I think so far...

Star Control: Origins

Okay, I love the gameplay. It feels super smooth. Although something about the sounds is bothering me. They're either too quiet or just right. And 90% of the time, they're too quiet and so I gotta constantly glance to the right side of my screen to see if I even delt damage or the bullet was just outta range. It's weird. Although I'll give em credit for the ship creator. As it's about as freeform as you can possibly get with such a thing. Amazing work on that. Another thing is that I'm glad to see victory themes back from the old games. Loved those to no end. Not sure if animated pilot icons will ever come to a 3d game like this. It may, it may not. But I don't got my hopes up for that. Also eventually the ability to make or import custom victory themes for custom ships would be nice. Also, I just wanna add that I'm confused on how the heck this weapon system even works. What decides what custom ships have as weapons?

Go to the outfit screen to choose your weapons, engines, etc.

Just pre-ordered and installing the beta as we speak. Will definitely check out the sound issue you speak of.

While waiting for my download to finish I'm checking the first Youtube stream of the Fleet Battles. I see that you can no longer fly past the edge of one side of the screen and come out of the opposite. This is good. I always found that feature in the old games a bit confusing.

I also see the asteroids close in on the planet as the match goes on. I'm not so sure about that. I used to chip away at an Ur-Quan Dreadnought's health using my Shofixti Scout even if it took forever. I guess that strategy will no longer work here.

My god, I am getting really pumped. So excited to try this out.

I gotta say. The inability to come out on one side by going through the other is both a pro and a con. A pro because it now prevents match stalling and makes it easier to navigate without confusion. Although there go's half the strategy. (the other half being ship usage in general) Perhaps a option enable or disable it would be nice. And it would depend on the battle for story mode. Sense they already got parts for the Dreadnaught, I hope for parts from all the other old ships then. Or at least weapons from em.

I suggested elsewhere that there should perhaps be different battle areas....A lot of people do not like the artificial asteroid wall, this thread is the first where someone said they like it, but also this person has not actually played at time of their opinion.

Yep. I initially thought it was a good idea, but after playing for awhile I realize I don't like it. I don't like the idea of being chased by the bully Battlecruiser inside a caged arena. It feels very constricting for fast moving ships. Add the fact that once the camera zooms in, you won't know if you're headed straight into the asteroid wall.

Gotta agree right there. They said they're gonna add arena options however, so I hope one of them is the original arena. They've changed up the way ship movement works and now I can strafe using space gravity and shoot ships again. so that's cool

Gravity strafing is one of my favorite moves with the Scryve Battlecruiser. :)

The gravity stuff is coming along nicely.

I have a strategy with the Mowlings where I go into orbit of the planet and just wreak havoc.

Unfortunately, my horrible coworkers agreed that beam weapons shouldn't be able to shoot through the planets anymore and changed it.

They're dead now.
