I was favorably impressed with Star Trek: Discovery tonight.  It wasn't great, but it's a good start, and given the chance I'll watch more.  A couple of negatives:

 

Guest starring Michele Yeoh?  What, you people don't have the budget or sense to hire her as a regular?

 

The GODAWFUL volume of commercials.  It's like they were trying to recoup the entire investment in the first episode.  To me, it made the show nearly unwatchable.  How much actual show was there? 35 minutes?

Discovery was particularly good this week.   It ties in to the original ST. 

Funny thing is, I'm still on my original trial membership.  Haven't paid a dime.

it wasn't a holo meeting. they met face to face somewhere off the ship. the only question is why he had to take the shuttle to wherever that was instead of taking discovery there directly and beamed aboard. or why that shuttle journey was long enough for him to be ambushed.

Here's a comment on ST:D vs. The Orville from a Star Trek writer.  I find his take on ST:D very interesting indeed.

 

Note, BTW, that Marc is heavily involved in a new show, Space Command.  I plan to check it out.

Season 1 of ST:D has ended.   It starts up again in January.    In the meantime, over Thanksgiving or Christmas break, you can sign up for a free trial of CBS All Access, and watch the entire season in one week.   I was able to cancel my trial with no issues.

season 1 hasn't ended. it's just the usual midseason break. (will return in jan as you said)
