Error? in BattleBehaviourDefs.xml

Regarding Support start position.

Line 126 has

<StartingPos>1500</StartingPos>

instead of previous (and intended?)

<StartingPos>1000</StartingPos>

Result:

  • Support ships enter combat in front of even capital ships.
  • Chaos occurs since they don't move but everything behind them does and tries to dodge them.
  • Guardians, which are supposed to protect supports, start at 1200 and thus in a battle with just Supports and Guardians the Supports take the brunt of the damage.

Test:

  1. Create any fleet comprising of Guardian and Support roles.
  2. Enter combat.
  3. Observe the Supports out front taking the first 1-3 waves of attack before the guardians can pass them.

That's a nasty one.  Good catch.

Thanks! Hopefully it is unintentional and gets fixed.

Not sure this is a bug. The Support role is at the same distance as the Starbase. A Carrier is considered a Support ship, so it has to be close enough to deploy the fighters. In front of them are Interceptors, Assault and Escorts.

Capital ships are behind the Starbase/Support roles. Defenders probably should be back there defending.

Battle Behavior and ship roles have always been wonky. Go4Celerity made an excellent mod for that here, but I don't know if it works under 2.6

?? That's not my understanding.  Wiki:

"Support ships start in the furthest back starting position and will not advance forward until" [there's no one else left].

Fighters deploy according to their role, not that of the carrier.

The GC3 Wiki page on ship roles was last edited in 2015, a lot has changed since then. In battle, a carrier needs to be close enough to allow its slow fighters to get to the enemy quickly. And not run out of fuel. Of course, that has nothing to do with GC3 game mechanics.

But you could be right, maybe its a typo. See if its addressed in the 2.6 final.

I'd rather that it be addressed by Stardock.

There's rules, right?  Is it too much to ask what they are??
