Unit Statistics Database, Balance & Tiny Bug

I have been working on a unit database spreadsheet which displays unit statistics in a convenient table for reference and for easy comparisons between units (I failed to find anything else on the web that displayed information in a table or was even remotely up to date).

I was importing the latest 2.5 data when I noticed a tiny bug. ‘SkyEnderLaserName’ in ModuleText.csv (row: 72, column: 1) I believe it should be renamed ‘SkyEnderLaser_Name’ (missing underscore).

Analysing the unit statistics I have three questions?

  • Why does the Substrate Nexus have weapons approximately ten times more powerful than the PHC Nexus, is the balancing factor the fact the Substrate Nexus have a minimum range which seems a little unintuitive?

PHC Nexus:

1x Penetrating Bolt:   500(damage),   15(rate),   99(accuracy),   33(DPS)

2x Annihilator Cannon:   33(damage),   3.5(rate),   90(accuracy),   17(DPS)

 Substrate Nexus:

1x Core Breach Delimiter:   300(damage),   1(rate),   100(accuracy),   300(DPS)

2x Ample Warning Particle Giver:   50(damage),   1(rate),   100(accuracy),   100(DPS)

  • The substrate Annihilator Cannon has always struck me as slightly over powered it has 0.59 DPS/Metal compared to a Smarties 0.25 DPS/Metal, more than twice as much.  Their total HP’s (including shields) are equal at 10HP/Metal.  The range increase for Smarty Rockets over the Annihilator Cannon seems balanced as Substrate frigates have a longer range when compared to PHC frigates.  I think the on-paper analysis is similar to in-game play too.  In the early phase an Annihilator Cannon can lock out an area where a Smarty System just is a small inconvenience.
  • Does the Substrate Pulverizer Turret really have a fire rate of 0.02! I keep looking at the stats and can’t see an error in the calculated DPS of 8,316!

Overall I am impressed with the overall balance changes and appreciate the in-depth reasoning shared with us on each release.

Good Work. :)
