AI bug, if a game is setup to be super slow, AI gets stuck in first build

I will post a screen shot of my game setup. When I hit start after this, the AI build 2 engineers, tops of the extractor things, then tries to build 2 factories, and it just stops right there.

Could also post a replay of it. Happens every time, easy to recreate.

Nevermind, the screen shot just shows the text from the jpg file, not the jpg. sorry

Lets try this..

Is true!  But in my experience it is Substrate only when build speed is "very slow".  The map selection doesn't seem to matter either. The 1st assembly never never finishes building.  Even when a 2nd Constructor helps, it just sits there with both Constructors still pouring resources into it.

**edit**

OMG who has time to play with those settings?  @ 6mins on game timer only 2 brutes get produced *yawn*

Ah ha!

I think I figured it out, the ai tries to build the factory but it requires radioactives as substrate, and they don't have enough rads to finish the factory.

No wait, just tried a game vs 7 substrate on insane, given the initial boost to the economy on insane that shouldn't have been a problem as they'd have enough rads to finish - 5 of the 7 still got stuck, but 2 didn't. Weird.

I think I figured it out. Played vs 3 other substrate on challenging. All 3 got stuck.

This time I played as substrate too and did exactly what they did.

You start with 100 rads, the factory on the ui panel says 45 rads to build. If you build one, it actually consumes 90 rads, 2x what it should.

When the ai tries to build 2 assembly bldg, it run out of rads and has no means to build and capture more rad income.

If the ai only builds one factory it will have 10 rads left as long as it doesn't build rad requiring stuff it can build it's first army.

So the problem seems to be not with the ai, but with construction and using more resources than the ui says it should.

Tried building a listening post as phc, I think the cost is 80 rads, I had 100, but it didn't finish I ran out of rads, so looks like the issue is really building is using more rads that the ui is displaying...

It is the result of build speed.

Build speed seems to be slowing down by using more resource instead of more time. If set to slow, it's supposed to be 50% longer, but is taking 1.5x (50% more) resource to build also. Very slow is using 2x more resource, which totally cripples substrate at the start with no streaming rad economy from the start. The problem is with the build speed modifier.

Ah, because build time relates to streaming income and cost per second, so if build time is adjusted, cost per second still stays the same therefore taking the same ratio of resources consumed equivalent to the time modifier? Cost per second for streaming would need to be affected by the same modifier as build time or it will change resource requirements along with build time. Interesting.

Aah, thanks for working that out! I'll look into it, I have noticed that the Assembly consumes more rads that it's supposed to.

I applaud your persistence in tracking this down.  If this is the case, I gotta admit I'm a little disappointed this slipped through. However, as I mentioned before, I bet this option sees relatively little use IMHO.
