Where does the founders project stand?

(Disclaimer: If this isn't the right place, feel free to delete this post or move it)

I signed up on November of 2015 to be a founder.  In that time I've tried to help by providing commentary on the monthly updates, dutifully reading/looking/listening to each component.  It was fun and interesting.

Then keys finally started going out. I patiently waited to be selected, even when I was told it would not be fun, but rather choppy technical stuff needing to be dealt with.  It's been months now since those keys went out, and I've seen nothing about getting one.  I tried doing the Skype thing for info and to feel contributory, but that quickly showed itself to be not-my-thing, since I have very limited time, and only want to be on-task with SC:O (It's not a social project for me).

I have no clue what discord is, nor do I want to learn. I deleted Skype.  I check the forums, and nothing new is ever on here except for the occasional tester opinion.

I'm trying to be involved in this project, since I did pay money up front for that privilege, but after 1.5 years of waiting to play something of this, I'm so tired.  I understand there are multiple projects going on at your studio, but I've been told for 18 months that "SC:o, your time is coming once we finish "x" project."  Ironically, I've not heard a drop of anything since then.

This is rambly, and I apologize for that, but basically it comes down to this:

I paid money and was excited for the privilege of being a part of SC:o early

I've waited patiently for 18 months to do some playtesting or something

There's no communication outside of a few early key-recipients

I'm still interested in the project, but have a hard time justifying following it when I'm getting practically nothing in return

<3 Stardock and SC, sad and expectant.

(TL;DR my bridge is light purple and I may be * frumpy *)

Discord is what has replaced skype as its easier to communicate. I suggest if you reconsider not using Discord. The 'Star Control' Channel is by invite only right now. I am an elite founder as well and there have been NO KEYS distributed for Beta since Beta has not started yet.

I get the frustration, but seriously you aren't missing a thing with the testing.  There haven't been any build updates until just recently and I can't even get it to work.  Early key holders are getting the exact same communication you are, no more at all.

News will pick up.  Stardock wanted to finish the DLC for GalCiv, now it's out.  I'd rather have them working on the game than chatting on the forums or in Discord.

And I don't mean this to sound rude, but it's really not Stardock's fault you don't want to use Discord.  I don't either, but since I want news I suck it up.

No worries. I'm social media averse, that's all.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one not hearing much.  After being promised more of an uptick after GalCiv Crusade and actually hearing less, it was a bit confusing and disheartening.

I totally feel your frustration. I feel the same myself.

In fact, I do not think I would have lost anything if I joined as Founders today, instead of months ago.

IMHO, Founder project was opened way too soon, at least 1 year too early then it should be.

EDIT: You should definitively join Discord. Just follow the link from latest Founders update.

4 people have a key when Frogboy had free time to give em out, he doesn't have much free time and it's not been automated yet. We all have to be patient. x

Most of the info is communicated through Discord sporadically when Frogboy makes an appearance. I think it's been established that more keys will be provided soon (not sure how soon, but I would be willing to bet several weeks at most).

Anyway, we don't bite on Discord, and you can read impressions from current key holders, in addition to being kept in the loop.

There are also the monthly updates in the founders vault.  While it is not a daily thing, it share some information.

Without the founders, the game wouldn't be on the track (the right track) it is today.

Over the past year the founders have had an immense impact on the development of the game via their postings here.

Thanks for saying so, Brad. It doesn't always feel like it from this end, but I'm glad we're helping!!  I still am SOOOOO eager to get my hands on something I can play with.  Sometimes I almost forget there's going to be a complete game on the other side of this project too....gotta remember that!!! :)

awww..buy yourself a coffee and send me the bill.

But really it does seem that our input is being taken seriously.  Several suggestions that we have made are clearly visible in ship design and balance specifically.

Froggy, I might be able to help you out with those keys being sent out. I can create a key distribution application to send them out via email if you'd like just need a list of founders and keys to send out. Of course any agreements to sign haha.

Sad to have been away as well. My pain in my hands turned out to not just be repetitive stress injury, but Ehlers-Danlos syndrome related. So I've been in physical therapy and not really playing much PC games or typing on computers. I can use a controller easier for some reason, but not long stretches of time.

I'm still very excited about the game and being a founder, but sorry I haven't been able to participate as much

it would be cool to get email update summaries periodically, instead of having to browse through the forum or go to the founder's page, but I understand if that's not going to happen.

If you join the Discord server there are some great pieces of information there. I took the liberty of recording a Q&A session we had today that lasted for over an hour.

It's interesting / odd / unusual that there isn't any email newsletter for founders either. I keep some tabs open to this forum in my browser and come back every now and then, but usually when I'm in some sort of early access program there is some sort of regular email update. Here it's very much checking back in and hoping that something may have been posted in the founder's vault.

The vault postings are pretty regular.  They happen monthly, usually the last day of the month or within the first couple of the next month.  Most of the news is shared via discord currently, but Stardock has been taking a break over the last couple of weeks.
