New resource system questions

Perhaps this is painfully obvious to others and I just can't see it...

Concerning the new Crusade resource system. I am unable to figure out what some of these resources are actually doing. Yes, there are vague descriptions and text, that really say almost nothing...

So specifically, let's say my shipyard offers me a mission, one promethion in exchange for a shot at some arnor spice. Is this even worth doing? Is arnor spice doing anything for me? Yes, I can read the vague flavor text. Arnor Spice is SUPER COOL! or some such. Beyond being super cool or whatever, this does what exactly?

Numbers please. What the hell is this doing, and why do I care?

None of the new trade resources seem to have a clear, this increases your junk by 1% per point, application.

Keeping it tl:dr as much as I can here.

Most of those items are required for building upgrades.  Arnor spice, for example, is required to upgrade the entertainment center to the entertainment network.  Harmony crystals are required to build the entertainment capital.  I'd give more examples but I'm on my lunch break at work and not at my gaming machine.
