[Bug] Windows 7 – some of my shortcuts don't have an icon

Hello.

Purchased Fences resently and found some unusual bug with shortcuts' icons: several shortcuts to some particular .exe files fail to load their icons. It appears that only certain links have difficulties to extract an icon from exe.

1) Tried to detach and reattach an icon – fixed in several places but major number of icons remained with the same blank icon.

2) Cleaning an icon cache doesn't help either.

3) Have no such bug with Fences uninstalled.

Any help?

This doesn't answer your question, but there is a place in the configure Fences/Color & appearance where you can hide the shortcut arrows.

Ran some other tests and found out that several conditions keep to all broken icons:

- Only happens in folder portals.
- All files with broken icons are shortcuts.
- Shortcuts lead to some .exe file, not an .ico file.
- That .exe file has library with several (more than one) icons inside.

So, I extracted icons from executables using some other software, and linked shortcuts directly to that icons. However, it is quite uncomfortable. Hope this will be fixed in future versions.

I'm experiencing the same issue here. I don't think the problem described in this thread has been solved (workaround =/= solutions), I'm choosing to bump the thread rather than make a new one that's basically identical.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Not happening on mine system. But maybe on curtain shortcut to games or .exe files only. Could you confirm that it also happening to you with same criteria as mentioned TS in reply#2?

Thanks

Update : Since OP is using Teamviewer as example which a program I can download, install and test it out. I found out that its short icons show up as normal on my system. Might be something else is at play here.

Would like to suggest to use the purge and reinstall steps and see if it helps. : https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling

Just make sure to re-download the latest fences version from your account. Reinstall it. Reboot and retest. If needed, try to delete those shortcut and recreate it.

Thank you,
