v1.9 Modernization Update Improves
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion for Current PCs

Get Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion on Steam for only $10!*

Sins: Rebellion celebrates its 5-year anniversary with an update that brings significant changes to the game's engine, AI, graphics systems, and more! Modern gamers will enjoy an incredible remastered 4K experience, optimizations to late-game play, and improved memory capabilities.

Major Features

Graphics Optimizations
Sins: Rebellion gets a face lift in v1.9! The improvements to the memory system have allowed for a new "Extreme" texture setting that makes the game look better than ever. The difference is noticeable in everything from the ships and the planets all the way to shadow rendering. The UI will look incredible on 4K monitors now thanks to user interface scaling.

Memory Optimizations
Concern yourself with space battles instead of space restrictions! Previously, Sins: Rebellion's 32-bit process was unable to exceed 2 GB of RAM usage. New adjustments in v1.9 allows the game to use up to 4 GB of RAM, which reduces crashes and lets modders focus on their creations instead of worrying about hitting the 32-bit limit. Any mods that already exist will benefit from the engine improvements with an overall better look and performance.

Late Game Optimizations
Reduced stuttering and lag during late game battles let you focus on the fight! The Iron Engine has been improved so you can enjoy large fights without worrying about issues. The game's AI has also received some updates, making for more interesting challenges and gameplay.

Yep, definitely wasn't expecting this! This team continues to amaze with the ridiculously long running support for the game.

Know what I'm doing after work today...

... ridiculously long running support for the game.

I started playing Age of Empires 2 1.5 years ago, still very much alive and growing that one, and it's what, 17 yo now. Nice to see this following a similar path of longevity, which means I may start playing this ^^.

You know this is good when it's on GOG. RTSs rarely get outdated in any case.

Hey all!

Have a question... I have SoaSE already, but its through the GameStop app. If i buy this expansion through steam, will it play by itself? or do i need to buy it through the GameStop website.... I ask because its $10 on steam, but almost $40 on the GameStop site.

No, you just need the Steam (or GOG) version. There's no dependency on GameStop to play.

OK< so this IS a stand alone... not an expansion that requires the base game in order to play. Thanks!

Great.  I sure hope this reduces late game lag a little bit.  At this point the game has probably come as far as it can on its current engine. I hope you guys and Ironclad will soon make a definitive decision on whether or not to produce a Sins-2, and if not, to sell the IP to a competent studio.

If Sins 2 is not on the cards yet, how about another content addition to Rebellion? While i would love completely new game, honestly even if it was just remake of Rebellion on the Nitrous engine with better graphics, i would be fine with just another iteration of the original game as well. Surely letting the game using twice as much RAM as before + all these late game optimizations opened the space for more content from devs themselves, i mean more than 18MB of better textures?

Thank you Iron Clad and Stardock for once again continuing to keeping this game alive and fun.

Its good to see that so much can be added with such a small update in size. Therefore, I cant wait to see what's next for Sins since we now have that extra 2gb of ram to take advantage of in some way or another. This is definitely more room for an expansion.

2017 is a year of great promise/hope and I know you guys are hard at work on surprising us. You have released 8 iterations of this game within a period of 5 years and that is no small feet on your end for a new studio on a primary focus on space rts. In that time you have had competitor titles come but have remained strong in your segment.

Galactic Civilization 3 went 64bit then aims to improve its ability to use multiple cores with the crusade update. I hope the same can be said about sins future or if you use Ashes Nitros Engine. Whichever path you guys choose is best for all of us because keeping this game alive and taking advantage of the ram in our computers is really beneficial for the games visuals. Thank you for giving us 4k.

Thank you and happy gaming.

I am trying to download this 1.90 update on my steam. Does it already download to the game already? because I tried to see if the works and it still shows my really really slow massive game play maps with the A.I. with the old update Maybe I am not doing this right.

And it's broken now all I get is black screen and an error message:

An error has caused Sins to stop working correctly. A report on this error has been logged for the developer.

I have 2 dump files from my trying twice (I checked the integrity of the files and all is well).

I revalidate after and all is clean. I restart the game, it crashes again I revalidate and it download the file again with the same size all the time 13.4 MB.

EDIT:

I started the game with the Dev.exe and got tons of this kind of error message:

Failed to Create D3DX Effect

I went to the _CommonRedist folder and installed all that was there but still having the same problem

EDIT2:

The file that keeps getting downloaded is gamedata.dat in the root folder of the game

BTW resetting the setting does nothing either

Shame i got screwed i bought them all on impulse  and well ya know were that went cant you guys get my keys i original bought the games from you

Impulse was a digital distribution and multiplayer platform. Originally developed by Stardock to succeed Stardock Central, it was purchased by GameStop in March 2011,[2][3] and was subsequently rebranded as GameStop PC Downloads, with the client being renamed GameStop App.[4] The client was discontinued in April 2014.

it would be greatly appreciated
