Map Editor Crashing

Hey guys,

The map editor used to work okay for me but now I cannot get a break on crashes and cannot make new maps! =(

Issue is always with rebuilding. The latest one I'm working on is a large map, when I click rebuild the map editor crashes to desktop with no error message.

PC:

FX-8350

16GB DDR3

GTX 780 3GB

Samsung SSD EVO

What I have tried to fix it and has not fixed it:

- Validate game files in Steam

- Run in DX12, 11, and safe mode

- run in fullscreen

- turn off background apps (geforce experience, MSI afterburner, web browser, etc.)

- turn off Geforce Exp 'Share' feature (shadow play)

- shutdown PC turn off PSU for a minute to fully drain power out of components then turn PC back on

- using different viewing mode while rebuilding (3d vs 2d)

- using different build qualities 1 and 4 both crash

Any ideas or fixes? would sharing the map file help?

Thanks,

What size was it in km and what build quality were you using? I think 16GB of RAM isn't ideal for maps that are 81 and 96km.

You could upload it and I could try to rebuild it for you, the map editor is fairly reliable for me. Sometimes a map can get broke to a point you just have to start over though.

It's a large so whatever that is 81 or 70 some sq KM. I've tried all the building qualities from 0 - 4 same crash.

I used to be able to rebuild large maps, I've made 4 large and 1 vast map, it's just lately after the last update I've been having problems.

Here's a google drive link for it you should be able to download it from here. If you could rebuild it for me and upload the rebuilt version that'd be awesome!

Build quality 3 or 4 is fine, erosion 200 please.

It just instant crashes for me too. Maybe somebody else could have a go or you might have to start from scratch, the map could be unfixable.

That was back in March, it's gotten a lot worse since the 2.2 update. I cannot rebuild maps anymore no matter how many times I recreate them. I've done everything to try to fix it and went thru their whole crash troubleshooting list.

Neither of my systems can build maps anymore. I really don't think it's anything wrong with my PCs the editor is just super broken right now.

I made a ticket to Stardock Support with crash logs, it's been a week and still haven't heard back from them. =/

Maybe nothing they can do, maybe another year or two and Ashes will be a stable game..... =/

Version 2.9 and the Map Editor is worst than ever.

I figured it out, for me it was memory related especially on the GPU. The map editor would use all 16GB of my system RAM then crash. I upgraded to a graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 and now I can render large maps without it crashing. It doesn't even use all my system memory anymore.

Sorry about the delay. The reason is explained in the message from top of forum: "Stardock will be closed for the holidays starting on December 25th and we will be returning on January 2nd. We will be monitoring support tickets and forums during this time but expect delays in responses during this time."
