Need dreadnought army formations for multiple dreadnoughts

I would be nice to be able to set dreadnaught formations either player defined or presets. It takes too much time to have to move each dreadnought army to new location when in a particular formation. For example forming a single line blockade and advancing it forward requires each dreadnought to be moved to the next location.  This could be done when groups are created and an option for a formation could be included.

would be cool, but i think pathing is going to be the issue since people will try to include armies with these dreads.. so u will have say 4 dreads + their 128 unit armies, trying to make a line formation, which must then navigate around these corridor maps...

when our units are already pathing the long way around an obstacle(and thats even without an army), i cant imagine how much worse pathing will get with formations that inlcude multiple dreads...

Pathing should not be an issue since the dreadnaught formation strictly works with the dreads.  The armies that are attached to the dreadnaughts will follow the in their own formation with their assigned dreadnaught.  As a dreadnaught formation move around obstacles only those that are directly affected move around it.  The pathing algorithm would have to know the formation the dreadnaughts are in to make that compensation.

oh the joys of pathing.. if only it was that simple... like how we would think that it would be simple to have a unit path the shortest distance around an object..it cant even do that so no i dont think it can do it as simply as u state

a dread would need to know where the other dreads are to maintain formation coherency AFTERWARDS, otherwise how would it decide if it should go right or left around a rock? oh it chooses the shortest path? but what if that tears it completely away from the formation? what if it puts it on top of a cliff while the rest of the formation goes down a valley?

The limitation of a single dreadnaught per army is... OK. It encourages a deathball per dreadnaught, rather than attempting a deathball of only dreadnaughts. This encourages many, many units which plays to the strength of this game engine IMO.

yeah i agree, the last thing we should have is multiple dreadnaughts in one army.. but i think OP is only talking about formation.. not necessarily armies.. u can already group multiple dreads

Think about it... what will happen if dreadnoughts buffs each other? it will be very OP.

I have armies with multiple dreads all the time, and it tends to be problematic. Some of the army units wont move, sometimes they do take a while to figure out where to go but thats not that big a problem. Its more that they wont all merge when you hit form aymy, and some go off to lala land..

I don't have any major issues with running multiple dreads other than the occasional pathing issue. I just drop them into Ctrl groups and take off. It is annoying reinforcing them when losing units though.
