SavageMind January 17

Music files: They are neat and what I expected, but nothing I'm going to write home to mom about. NDA stops that.

Staffing woes: Oh well, it's nothing anyone can do about it but Stardock.

Game Engine: Tailoring a engine to work with a product it wasn't specifically designed while a headache, is better than trying to create a whole new engine. If you already spent the money on it why waste it?

Modding tools: I wasn't that impressed with quest editor. Will all the editors be incorporated into one toolset or we have to make a build off of each editor/maker and cobble it together?

Super Melee: We will see, when we get our hands on it, whether it is good or not. Even then it won't be complete so only time will tell.

Story talk: I like the current female commander. You can email her to me if she needs a place to stay one you give her the boot.

Please tell me the Precursors are NOT evolved, six legged cows, with elephant feet and no prehensile appendages. SC3 ruined my whole outlook on them and I feel dirty thinking about it.

Precursors can be involved, remember they were devolved into cow creatures (so they looked different), also, Stardock can change their designs, or maybe they change appearance in every universe

i like the idea of an old alien race, no matter how ancient a race you encounter there was always one before that

Actually, I don't post for any your benefit. I post because my opinion is solicited by the developers. Just because one of you made thread doesn't mean it's the "Official" thread. I don't choose to follow the herd like the rest of you. I'll participate how I want, when I want, and where I want. So unless the Devs or Mods change the rules, get over it.

Woah, harsh, we have to care about what anyone writes, we are a team here, a team of founders because of a team of developers, we need to stop being rude like this ;/

We care what people write on the forums, especially their feedback.

Responses like yours to someone posting is not needed on the forums. So stop doing it, or I'll make it so you can't post them.

Love to hear your opinions, and I'm sure the devs do as well. Who cares where you post them? Don't listen to the self-named forum police, you're in this program for the benefit of this new game. Trust me - Brad and Vaelzad DO want to hear what you write. Don't question that.

Also, I sincerely hope we never actually *find* the Precursors. There's no way they can live up to what I've made them out to be in my mind. That's the reason I've dreamed about them for decades - they're mysterious, they're high powered... and they're *gone*.

Kinda of agree to that! ;) finding a old Precursor Machine or Robot is one thing, they must be dead or evolved to another plane of existence at this point, but like i said, finding a ship of theirs, statues is fine ;)

Well, I have an idea who the precursors are.

The Precursors are... the Game production staff *gasp*

The Ultimate Evil! that the Spathi are so afraid of that is just outside of their sensor range & who had killed off the Androsynth are blackhat hackers and/or members of the Board of Investors.

I can handle the Precursors being just about anything, but a six legged cow. So if they are, just keep them away and hidden. I grew up on a dairy farm. The thought of milking a Precursor is disturbing...lol. :omg:

However a alternate universe where the Precursors are evil would be a awesome story line.....DIBS!!!!

I think Precursors being Space Cows is the most brilliant idea since the birth of mankind. Devolving themselves into lower beings to avoid extermination? Amazing! My mind is blown!!

Actually I remember a quote from within Star Control 3 where the MC "Our character" actually mentions he was going to get ill due to eating Precursors & drinking their milk.

This.

This guy gets it.

I don't ever want to meet the precursors in game (SC3 never happened, lalalala I can't hear you) for this exact same reason. They should remain mysterious and aloof and we should never have any real answers about them.

Just my 2c

I'd prefer to see the Precursors remain an ongoing mystery as well, although one we can uncover little fragments of by exploring their abandoned worlds. Previously we only took advantage of their technological relics, but I would not mind also being able to come across little tidbits that tease minor details about their culture too. It is a great plot thread that can continue to deliver new narrative elements so long as you don't attempt to peel away every layer of the onion and lift the veil on mystery that should remain hidden.

I can't recall which I experienced first: playing Star Control or seeing The Forbidden Planet, but I always admired the obvious inspiration Paul Reiche took from the film. I don't think it's unfair to suggest several elements of Star Control lore were influenced by the film. The discovery of the Precursor factory on Unzervalt seemed like it was pulled directly from the scene where Morbius takes Adams and Ostrow through the Krell facility on Altair IV that was 40 miles wide and 7,800 levels deep. No evidence of the Krell culture or biology survived, but their astounding technological achievements remained operational after a quarter million years. Interestingly, both the Krell and the Precursors disappeared about the same number of years ago in both stories...

The characters seemed a bit underwhelmed by the experience of touring that facility, but that scene still blows me away to this day. I'd have been absolutely slack-jawed if I were in their shoes. I'd love to see that kind of awe whenever stumbling upon a undiscovered Precursor facility, and maybe pick up some small morsels of their culture in the process too. Not convinced there will ever be a compelling narrative reason to find the Precursors themselves though.

Great point, this is exactly how I feel too. Just to add to that, the most exciting part of the SC2 game was finding those rare energy scans on some planets, then landing the crew to examine. I would love to have the same excitement when discovering rare alien ruins or energy signatures.

This is extremely hypocritical coming from someone who just hammered against someone for posting their opinions in a place other than the "Official" thread.

Also, no where have I ever seen the developers saying that our opinions don't matter because we don't have enough data, the only place I have ever seen that argument used is by members of this forum either withhold such judgement because we really don't have a lot of information, or being used as an argument against a scathing review of certain information.

I mean, hell, if what you said was true then I probably would have been banned by now since I dared disagree with a developer on their stance on resource regeneration, which we proceeded to have a long and good-natured discussion about resource implementation. Doesn't really sound like threats or refusing to listen to me.

I am sending you a PM with more details on what event Alverez was referencing. Suffice to say, it happened.

If anyone else wants to know, drop me a PM.

Well call a spade a spade and put it on the forum instead of this cloak and dagger mystery crap.  So if you got a beef with a dev get it out in the open or address it to them directly.  This "I'm sending you a PM" stuff is sad at best and a attempt to bring yourself to the center of attention. At least I'm honest about my motives. I can't stand you in the least and I don't want to participate in topics that you or Human start and overrun. That's why I start my own topics. Instead of the devs reading a endless amount of your blather they can read the top of my post to get my feedback. You guys are not happy unless your in control and the center of attention. Well you got your attention now, what next? Come back with some cheap shots, or snarky clever remarks to try to gain favor? I know, let everyone know how much SavageMind is overreacting to you guys constantly acting like overbearing asses.  I'm waiting.....
