I have been waiting patiently for the above option to re-appear - zooming in and out was a real asset in GC2 so I hope they do implement it in the new Crusade DLC....

Not exactly what you want but, this does allow you to zoom tech trees. Its an external viewer.

In GCII you could use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out of the tech tree. I used it constantly.
I'd like to see this too. I am not sure this will make it into the GalCiv III series or not. Depends on how they implemented it.
I posted about the no zoom almost 2 years ago back in April 2015.
"A better tech tree interface/UI - Similar to Endless Space or Civilization: Beyond Earth. Their tech tree is a web going in four directions, left, right, up and down, that means you get to see all techs on the same screen at once, no more clicking/scrolling back and forth between screens in each tech category. Players can zoom out and zoom in, filter by tech, name, search, queue research, etc. The tech interface in GC3 might be good 11 years ago for GC2."
"Also for some reason in the tech trees, race specific techs/buildings are not marked with their specific race icons. GC2 had icons belonging to the race marking them.
