Questions on platform & ships in the game.

1)Has there been any discussion on what platform SC Origins will released on?

I'm hoping for PS4. I'm not a PC gamer....pleeeeeease make it for any platform besides just pc.

2)Speaking of release....Can we expect it to come out in 2017?

3)Could there possibly be tools in the game to create/design your own ship from scratch? ( btw...this would be crazy awesome)

4)Ships generally had a Primary & Secondary weapon. Is this to be continued or are ships going to have even more options for offensive or defensive tactical capabilities? ( just curious here...i have no preference on this)

5)Regarding ships in Melee...Do you still run into planets and if not, how has this been resolved?

6)How many ships are in the game at default settings?

Will more be added from downloads possible?

is there a limit?

7)Will upgrades be available for the ships like in the original SC 1 game? (like improved speed, turning, crew pods, etc.)

Or will it be for just your precursor ship only like in SC2?

I have many more questions i could ask, but I'll stop there for now.

curious...how long has Stardock been working on this game?

feels like 3 years...lol

This game is gonna crush No Mans Sky...lol

excited...cant wait!

keep up the great work.

i'll give it a shot.

1: There was a discussion a while back and it was mainly confirmed that it will come out on PC for one would not be able to fully utilize and experience the game on console based platforms.

2:It seems like it will come out this year, however i'd like them not to rush the game, so they can pay attention to the finer details.

3: Personally i would not like to design my own ship as i feel the quality on authenticity should be left for developers to design ships as each and every ship will/should have very unique capabilities and one should not be able to transfer those abilities in a spam fashion towards any other mass produced, amateurish ships, otherwise it won't be unique and the wonder and wow factor of each ships unique abilities would be removed, the unique qualities of a ship then greatly degrades, i'd rather have the ships uniquely designed by the developers. Quality is preffered way above and over quantity.

4: I would hope they stick to only Primary and secondary weapons, that was enough in Star Control 2 and 3 and it would be just fine for SCO, clutter it up with too many systems will affect the gameplay, the unique kinds of weapons on the ships in sc2 and 3 made for interesting and exciting one on one battles. Star Control 2 and the melee section in 3 kept that well balanced winning factor in tact and that's how it should stay.

5: I would certainly hope we most definately run into planets they need to keep the physics real taking it out would firstly, make it unrealistic, secondly, would make the combat monotonous and unexciting. Star control 2 had brilliant physics, it was perfectly balanced, keeping you on your toes as you sweat it out in a fun challenging and exciting battle ! ! The roots for the successful physics in star control was mastered in the arcade age, applied and tweaked to perfection by Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford for Star Control.

6: I'd rather opt for quality than quantity, again Star Control 2's ship had the quantity vs quality nailed, every ship was unique and had it's own individual strong and weak points, leaving for little improvement required although i feel some ships could've been slightly better but not by much to be concerned about, they really knew how to make a ship interesting, unique and exciting !

7: You are talking about the ships doing battle other than the precursor, making this too complicated again will influence the energy of the game, the precursor should definately have the option for upgrades as with starcon 2. i don't really see a need to upgrade smaller ships, they are already made by the aliens to the best of their abilities and serve their purpose rightfully within the bigger picture of the game, if it is made to change the battle ships it would leave an unfair advantage and unbalanced gameplay which would take away the fun factor.

It does feel long don't worry, we all can't wait for it to happen BUT i'd really rather wait 2 or 3 years than to get a rushed game to full production, look at how much time blizzard takes to make their games, there is a reason why the games they make is superior umongst other's in their league.

I agree it's going to crush No Man's Sky if they use the same principles that made star control 2 a great game, with new graphics, new ships, new story, new aliens, and a few welcome surprizes.

While I do know the answer to some questions, I am under NDA so I can only answer with what is available to the public.

1) & 2) It was stated in the official press release:

"Star Control: Origins is scheduled for release on PC and consoles with the PC release scheduled for 2017."

Yeah I can not answer most of this because I am not allowed to discuss what is in the founders vault. If you get the founders edition most (or all) of thing will be answered.

Just to clarify, i hold Stardock up in the same light as Blizzard, it is just an example that came up in my mind while replying.

Back then i actually always favoured Westwood above Blizzard as firstly i liked the realism and current semi future like setting.

i liked the way Westwood immersed you into the gameplay with clear environments and not too much clutter. i liked the units, buildings, music, sound effects, technology, and finer details for example something that would seem small but actually made a huge difference in how the game was experienced was their harvesters, in CNC 1 when the harvesters docked, the dispensing bin of the harvester, would disconnect and slide off the harvester into a vertical position and lock into the refinery, that really was awesome along with the led's going up on the refinery as the spice was offloaded into the refinery, i have not seen this realism in any other rts game ever, the helipads, the cross led's as the air unit's re-armed looked natural, and i liked the chiniook's blades spinning down to idle upon landing. these smaller details really made the difference.

Westwood  created worlds and units compared to Blizzard to be more realistic and i like'd the era's they simulated much more.

As for Star Control compared to CnC, though not comparable as they are not the same type of game, i experienced the same type of quality to detail, and void of clutter, the environments and sound in sc2 really taking you in.

It would be nice to see the same type of maps Stardock is using in their games for planets in SCO as the rolling planet seemed to be somewhat disconnected and small, but this was already mentioned. Can't wait for the next peek but again i'd rather not let anything be rushed, they need to really take their time making it as good as it can be.

Oh god speaking of blizzard I play Starcraft 2 allot. When shortened it is SC2. When star control 2 is shortened it is also SC2.

SC2 and SC2 very confusing

" as the spice was offloaded into the refinery" - I detect someone around 40 that played Dune 2

Very true  |-) didn't think about it that way, my post refers to Star Control 2. The music and sound was art on it's own.

That is Proudly played Dune 2. And you are not far off the mark. Dune 2 is very much engraved in my gene's so it's easy to leak some memories in that era over to a lot of other games without realising it. |-) I played almost every other rts after that, so that helped me paint a vivid picture of what has been lost, what has been gained in the genre and what is lacking which i think many also share.

i think if you haven't played dune2, you won't have a true appreciation of the roots of what RTS is about, where it came from, what is good now, what is not, sadly losing the westwood team, many qualities uniquely to their style has been lost, it does not mean however today's rts games is bad, they are good, but there are qualities that is not present in many of today's rts games that could've been taken from westwood and advanced even further today, having played almost every rts game in the past and still playing the latest and greatest every year, that enables to make a good comparison of how things were, what has been improved and what has been lost along the way, there are pro's and con's in both era's.

And of course just as Dune revolutionized RTS, StarControl 2 Created a genre equally Impressive, captivating, and very unique  and interesting, sadly it was unexplored ever since for reason's i have yet to know, as it is one of the most interesting genre's that was ever created.

Also very curious about the fuel transfers in this game.

In SC2, you had the Melnorme. Where 1 could always be found by a supergiant.

So if you needed fuel & didn't want to return to base, you could trade with them.

Now, since the previous races will not be in the game, what options will there be to refuel?

1)a race much like the Melnorme, whom you can trade with?

2)fueling stations throughout the cosmos?

3)must always go back to base.

I really hope they have a plan on this.

man, I can't wait for this game.

also, any chance we can see another trailer?

would like to see some other cool stuff in the game.

No spam fuel depots, 1 or 2 places depending on how big the starmap will be will be enough it has to be kept as in sc2.

The cost of being in space and needing to think about where to go next considering your fuel quantities added to the realism of being far out in space and having to rely on your judgement to make it to that far out system and back and if succesful the reward is always satisfactory.

Spam depots and it would be non exciting, just as seeing exactly what goes on on the surface of a planet by just looking at it. A hint of colour, atmospheric effects, storms, haziness, lightning but not much more.

and some suface texture, kind of like how earth looks like from space, or jupiter, like our own and exotic planets out there.

I forgot to change one of my posts earlier where i replied on the Star Control section in a thread where i mentioned star control 3 had a good melee.

The Melee in Star Control 3 sucked big time, SC2 had the perfect Physics, ships, environment, natural feel with the perfect adrenaline filled combat balance !
