Isn't there production overflow? Just build something else and more expensive after a small ships and no prod. is wasted.

There is a production overflow, which is shown in a tooltip when hovering over the shipyard build que. However, what I believe he is referencing is the fact that once you get to extremely high late game production, it is inefficient to produce ships with fewer hit points and hull space when you can build a size huge dreadnought and a size small corvette in the same time. You are wasting time, rather than production.

One idea I had was the ability to build multiple shipyards sponsored by the same planet/set of planets. But by doing so you lose eg: 25% production per additional shipyard. So if you have 100 production and 2 ship yards connected. They are getting 37.5 production each (Production / Ship Yards - (25%*No.SY)) or something like that. So similar to shipyard decay  but a fixed amount. Therefore you can build multiple smaller ships per turn with no real noticeable change but if you are wanting to build larger ships then you would prefer a single shipyard.

Alternatively there could just be a tech where its like "Tiny and small ships can be build 2 per turn" or something like that.

I'd like shipyards to cost an admin and to have a slew of available upgrades...

...upgrades that...

boost defenses

are required to build ever larger hull types

add stat bonuses to ships constructed there

allow parallel construction runs for smaller hull types

give gearing bonuses to sequential runs (a .9 exponent applied to the manufacturing cost of each sequential identical ship for example)

I want citizens I can station at my shipyards with benefits  more varied than +X% Military Production as well.

With crusade having no constructors just a purchase cost for starbase upgrades, I wonder if you could give shipyards a area of influence like stabases, where any starbase within its range gets an X discount to its upgrades.

As for the other upgrades I agree, you could even have the upgrade which lets you build smaller ships in multiples once you get the required tech. Maybe even some hyperion shipyard upgrades could be cool.

Edit: If this was implemented you could maybe fix the issue of ships regaining HP 'slow' by having some techs where if ships are in its AOE they regain HP faster. Iconians having the best repair tech upgrade of course ;)

You can do these by modding engineer and place it in a the sponsoring planet.  MAY be able to add to a promotion (haven't tried so could be wrong..  Modder guru's?)

You could adds boosts to Defense/Attack/Jamming/Targeting/Sensors ect. Can not see currnetly a way to add a sequential bonus though, or allow them to build more than 1 ship per turn.

Well, they could just turn off the rule against it.

I want to know if there's any way we can have multi-ship shipyards.  And no, I won't go along with any suggestions that putting shipyards next to each other would qualify unless they can be joined somehow and they can have some economies of scale in both manufacturing and defense as you add additional construction bays.

Look at the great naval shipyards around the world.  Nobody builds only one ship at a time, except maybe for the very first seafaring peoples.  Modern shipyards can be building multiple ships of multiple types, all at the same location.  Let's do that!
