It is when you only have disability as your monthly income ($1067.00 US). It's a Sharp television (27") but for whatever reason ever time I try to set it at the recommended setting, the icons far left are half missing Winstep Ultimate is hanging way of the bottom screen, and NextStart dock flickers like mad. Took me several minutes to get it back to 1024x768. Yes it's nice having it big (easier to see!) but really wish I could get it to work at a higher setting. That's the whole reason I decided to use it as a monitor. Have Acer Predator desktop running Win10 64bit. It has a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card, so I know it can handle it. It's a gaming tower, didn't know that it was 2 hd's instead of 1 with 1TB. I can try and upload a ss so you can see what I mean.

I get it, You seem to have a problem in the Resolution Settings for your TV and as I understand you use it because it's Bigger than a Computer screen..... Tricky, I thought we could just collect some cash for you to get a screen, but that doesn't seem to solve your problem since you use a TV for the actual SIZE. Hmmmmm.

Hey Peeps of the community... any suggestions ? :S  Tv settings is a BITCH

@ SpicyGirl,

These days I too only get a Disability Support Pension, and yeah, it is really hard to afford things over and above food; rent; uilities and clothing, etc.  However, I'm a real tight wad and will scrimp and save like crazy to get stuff I want, like electronics and computer related stuff.  Quitting the smokes 10 years ago today helps alot, but I make things last as long as possible and only buy new if it can no longer be repaired.  I recently had to throw out a 22 y/o pair of shoes because the uppers had recently come away from the soles and just weren't worth repairing. Their replacements: AU$19.95. from K-Mart.

Anyway, while it's hard, getting a luxury or two here and there is possible if you budget wisely and stick to it, spend only on what you must, and economise on everything.  I recently picked up a 32" UHD TV for $260 because it truly was a bargain at 70% off RRP.  It just means, though, that the new PC build I wanted to build later this year will now have to wait for another 6 - 8 months longer... unless I have a rich uncle with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana skin.

:-" ;P

As for your 27" TV, if it is Standard Definition [SD], then your PC's graphics card will not display it at a higher resolution because it has fewer pixels per square inch, and thus items appear larger.  That's why items disappear off screen and/or are unstable.  To get a TV to display similarly to a dedicated PC monitor, it needs to be a 4k/Ultra High Definition one.

Depending on the graphics driver, the adjustment is done in driver settings.

For example, I run a radeon card hooked to my HDTV. The taskbar and tops of explorer windows would be off screen at 1920x1080.  I use the overscan settings in Radeon config.

If it's and NVidia card, it's the "resize" option.  Which has to be enabled, applied, then resized.

Now my resolution fits my TV screen.

Yeah, you posted while I was writing, so this is what I have figured out:

A 24" - 32" UHD TV is generally cheaper to get than a 4K monitor of a similar size, even when they're not on special.  So really, the idea would be to save like crazy and wait for a TV sale.  Thing I do, though, when there isn't a sale on anywhere locally, is to play retailers off against each other.

What I do is go to the first retailer and ask for the best price on the item I want, then I take a card with that price on it to the second retailer and ask for their best price: and so on and so on until I get the best price possible.  It really is amazing just how much less you pay below the RRP by using this strategy.

The same applies to high end monitors as well, haggle down the price, but you're still looking at a higher price than a similar sized UHD TV.  It doesn't have to be a high-end model from a high-end manufacturer, either.  The TV I bought is a lowly Kogan brand, but the screen is from Samsung as are the majority of the components, so why not.  I get the same standard warranty as a Samsung TV, and for a few extra bucks I get an extended 3 year warranty.

Okay, will try adjusting going through NVIDIA settings. When I bought that TV it was on sale. It's like 10 y/o. Was only able to purchase new one because I was given the option to get my 401k from my time working at AT&T. Needed the money so took that option. It has a HDMI hookup, as most do these days. The only other beef is even with a good sound card, I still have to use headphones to hear it!

Andy, love the icons. :) 5* 5* 5* 5*

You have fantastic graphics in your skins. To me though the finished product is difficult to use. I'm not saying anything bad please understand. I'd like to see more usability before I'd drop 10 bucks on a skin. Again I appreciate the skill and the graphics are off the charts but just not for me. I have hesitated saying anything before to you because I thought it might not be taken in a good way. Peace.

Like how?  I have the theme loaded as I write but cannot find where to 'say' add items from righthand side ofthe standard start menu.  I have tried left and right clicking without success.

Don't get me wrong, I love the theme but it would be so much more complete with a right-hand menu option being made easily accessible.

:)
