Upgrading ships can really mess up your finances

I would really like it if the upgrade interface (both the governer and the specific ship popup) gave you the TOTAL cost of upgrades as well as the individual cost. I would also like it to inform you if your planned upgrade is going to take you below 0 credits (possibly by turning red?).
Good idea... occurred to me several times as well after I used the "upgrade all" option. I always avoid this now without saving first.
In my opinion, a good solution would be for the game to just upgrade as many ships as you have money for, and leave the rest unupgraded without putting you in debt.
Many have suggested this in past, as this was in Galactic Civilizations II, however, has yet to get any love in this version, it also doesn't let you pay over time at a higher rate or only upgrade ships in selected fleet either as the past game allowed.

Indeed the "lease" option with payments over time for entire fleets is not in ....'yet'. also will come is the alert we are looking for. I do believe we will see a great deal of changes with the release of Crusade.
The lease system for ships was lovely! If nothing else, it was a great object lesson for kids on thr perils of debt!
