Stardock Announces Star Control: Origins

October 18, 2016 – Plymouth Michigan - Stardock announced Star Control: Origins today.  Star Control: Origins is a sci-fi action/adventure game with many RPG elements set in the future where the player is the captain of Earth’s first interstellar starship that explores a procedurally created galaxy, makes contact with various alien races, explores unique worlds, and engages in action packed battles, all while trying to unravel the complex intrigue that has the galaxy on the brink of chaos.

"We Earthlings are the newcomers to the galactic scene," said Brad Wardell, Executive Producer. "The dozen plus space-faring species have been hatching their schemes since before we got out of trees. Now, suddenly, they have to deal with those meddling apes from Sol 3 who threaten to upset the plot."

The game starts in the year 2086 with the unaware humans receiving a distress call from an alien ship that has crashed on the moon of Triton, leading to the formation of Star Control, an international space agency dedicated to protecting the Earth.  The player takes on the role of The Captain of Earth’s first interstellar ship whose first mission is to investigate the distress signal.

Star Control: Origins represents a new start for the beloved franchise.  Stardock acquired the rights to Star Control 1/2/3 from Atari and since then has launched a new game studio in Towson Maryland specifically to create the new Star Control title. The classic series is available for sale on Stardock's newly launched StarControl.com website with players also able to pre-order Star Control: Origins and join the Founder’s Program.

"Star Control is ultimately about us Earthlings exploring the galaxy, finding and talking to strange alien civilizations, and hopefully living to tell the tale," said Wardell. "We are hopeful those who remember the original trilogy will like the direction we’re taking here while at the same time introducing a whole new generation to the awesomeness of a game that combined action, adventure, and roleplaying in a sci-fi game simultaneously."

Star Control: Origins is scheduled for release on PC and consoles with the PC release scheduled for 2017.

Players interested in joining the Founder's program for $35 will gain access to the upcoming beta program as well as access to the Founder’s Vault, mod tools, private journals and more.

Visit www.starcontrol.com to join or get more details.

High Gods Dogar and Kazon are happy but require larger acts of faith before they appear.  Death to the Kohr-Ah!

How long, roughly, will the lifetime founder offer be available for?

Death to the Orz! Who are those rock guys that the Ur-Quan liked before they wiped 'em out?

The Taalo were never confirmed to have been wiped out. Paul Reiche actually went on record about twenty years ago saying they survived, although presumably not in our dimension.

Really? Do you have a link to that conversation? Or is it too lost to time?

Paul and Fred held several internet chats with the community about 10-20 years ago where they answered to a lot of loose ends. Maybe "answered" is the wrong word, as most of the responses were more "implied" because they did not want to give firm answers to everything. This was basically the 90s version of an AMA before Reddit became a thing.

His very brief response about the ultimate fate of the Taalo was that "they live", though he did not go into further detail.

Hello to all and congratulations! :)

I just listen the new remake music downloaded from the web site. Nice. Old feeling with new arrangement.

For the graphics , art style. Hm i'm not sure so much cartoon style will be good ... Looks like web based game ...

Also the planet scale is totally wrong for sure! At the beginning (video) i star to think that alpha centaur is some piece of rock (asteroid) not a planet.

I understand the idea for landing and collecting resources you want to be more .. how can i say modern, (mass effect) but in that case i see some small piece of planet that i walk around very fast. And all looks so cartoon...so condensed...

Idea is not bad but planet from orbit must look spherical not so much relief.

Also in SC2 Planet orbit screen was totally smashing. If you can do a mix will be great.

If is no too late maybe is good idea to keep in mind about that size problem ....

And again: Too much cartoon style will change the whole feeling of SC. That border must be very well estimated.

Sorry for my English...

Best to all

Let's make that 2 years!

"Star Control: Origins is scheduled for release on PC and consoles"

why for gods sake, why. Why have gameplay and design limited by those piece of shit inept controllers? Ditch that nonsense and let yourself loose by taking full advantage of mouse and keyboard, without a second thought on wheter this will be doable on a pad later on, or will that work optimal on a pad.  Make an authentic pc game, the kind that youll play and say "this is only possible on a PC, because it has M/KB". Theres no audience on consoles for this

Somebody never played the 3DO version...:)

Not only was the content upped, there was SUPER MELEE mode! My friends and I played that until the day the 3DO died.

hmmm, the screenshots of the lander and collecting minerals look a big naff. :( Is that the best way to do it?

You guys have big shoes to fill. Hope your team is up to it.

Cheers,

What in particular are you disliking about the lander and mineral collection?

I think its the perspective. Small planet with the lander rolling around make it looks small, No depth, takes away the adventure. With SC2 the map was flat but had depth and the planets seemed big, a sense exploring or adventure.

Couldn't you use procedural generation or something like that to make the planets a little bigger so it feels like your actually exploring something, a strange new world. (Not as big a No Mans Sky).

Just my thoughts.

Cheers,

Rob

Ehhh... although SC2 planets had varying parameters, their represented in-game area was always the same size that took 2 seconds from one pole to the other, and maybe 8 seconds to make a full loop around. I wouldn't call that large...

But yes, larger planets would be nice.
