Aircraft behaviour on attack command

I notice the army doesnt respond to command very well. Particularly aircrafts. When I click on a unit or structure to attack it, most of the time it just hovers around it and does nothing. The AI's army however doesnt have that problem. It attacks really well.

 

Is this something I've been doing wrong or can this be fixed?

Are you putting aircraft into an Army meta unit? Because yeah apparently they won't do much then. I don't know first hand as I don't put air with ground forces into an Army. They get too easily shot down for potentially no gain if you do that. I put them into their own Ctrl groups and call them in when I want to, seems to work well. Though sometimes they don't really focus fire on the unit you want, especially fighters anyway.

yes particularly fighters. but the AI fighters seem to do their job really well which makes me wonder.

 

I wonder if it has to do with my computer been slow. Maybe commands don't get through or the AI behavior for each unit don't get processed fast enough?

It won't be your computer. But I know what you mean. I swear when I am playing other humans that their fighters hit what they want and hurt me, but when I try the same it rarely pays off...some psychological stuff happening there me thinks :)

oh our fighters and the AI fighters are just not on the same level. the difficulty level says AI get bonuses I dont know if that's one of them. I thought they just get extra resources.

 

I just move my fighters to the spot and queue an attack move. They'll hit whatever they want to, they wouldnt listen to me anyway... But they do tend to target resource extractors first if they are close enough. And those really hurt. When I  come back to check and they finish the job - not always I just move them to another location. Pretty much everyone I encounter dont build anti air turret at resource nodes outside their base. Aircraft harass is really powerful in this game but you got to be able to afford them. they cost alot of radioactives which are really scarce.

I think I've found kind of a work around to this problem. If this is a problem for other people that is. Essentially do what the AI does, plot attack runs by using move command. if they are in range they will attack anyway. This way they take less defensive fire and always attack the enemies and structures in its path. Which they attack will be based on the inherent targeting priority. Which seems to be resource collectors.
