Special components location

It would be nice to have a search capability to locate ships which are currently using a special component. I often have multiple designs using these components, so have to search each type of ship (let alone if I redesign that).

 

Reason for this is I want to build an "important" new ship and want that component on it, I have to search entire fleet to find the ship(s) using them (if more than one component) so I can decommission them.

 

Maybe you could when in designer - mouse over the component which will tell you where it is located.

Search would only work in your territory, or it would not make sense. Honestly you would not no a component from a scan just it's signatures. In game terms you could identify it by how powerful it is.

Sorry, I am looking for a search of components which I have already found and already deployed/built on a ship.

 

As I said I often use the components on a as needed basis (i.e. need a super fast ship - dump the speed components on), but after that I forget where I last used the component, thus I have to search through each ship, which is a pain.

Well, the answer is to build your own ship templates - not using active components, just make then visually unique.

 

Any time you spot that ship on the map you know instantly its a special ship.... even just glancing at the ship list, you can recognize it that way too.

I name one of a kind component ships.  It doesn't help when looking for ships in fleets.  I can envision having designs that are unique enough to visually stand out in fleets.  Most of my designs do that anyway.  :) But you still have to look through all the fleets.  I want sort-by-name to have an option to list ships in fleets.  That would help me and my usage.

True....

 

You know what else would work for finding the right fleet..... make ALL the ships in that fleet look unique! regardless if they are special or not. Glancing around the map, you could recognize that fleet easily.

Good ideas (for now) which is why I suggest (clearly a need) to be able to search/locate ships that have "component x".

Another option I was thinking here (during a design session) was that in the designer you could put some "hover" text (or something else) which indicates the ship it's currently on and the fact it's in use already. 

 

That way I don't add it to a ship then go to build said ship only to find out it's already in use on another ship, which I then have to go search for... argh...
