Way to measure distance before assigning ship to move.

It would be great if you could check a distance before you commit a ship to move.

Example I have 2 ships at two different locations, and they both look about the same distance from target. Is one closer? Is the target within striking range, can I build a ship quicker at a close shipyard if its going to take more than one move.

A simple shift-Right mouse or Cntrl-right mouse or any combination with ship selected will give you path and distance.

should be easy to implement and very very useful...

It's already in. Select the ship and press CTRL when on the tile you want the ship to reach to see how many turns it would take.

Very cool... thanks - path would be a nice addition to this.

This approach is so buggy. I have to hit CTRL like 4-5 times and move the mouse around to get the distance pop-up to appear. Sometimes it never does. While I'm at it, frequently the influence pop-up never appears either.

Why not a highlighted overlay that appears on the map when you have a ship or fleet selected that shades in the range of the vessels?

also I can't seem to do it over another object, so if I want to measure to a planet or another ship, I have to target the space next to the ship.

Another feature which would be very helpful would be ability to measure the distance to an outside of current range location.

For example an enemy 150+ hexes away declares war on me. Rather than wait for him to ever come to me I want to send a ship to attack him. Currently it's outside of most of my ships range (with exception of my long range scanner - which happens to be on other side of verse, so no easy way to determine distance to enemy planet.

Thus if I have any ship I should be able to determine distance with a note along side of range - "Outside of existing range" or something to that extent.
