Anniversary update

Wise move on uninstalling everything first gef. From what I have heard, this stupid "Anniversary Update" is crashing more PC's than it is actually working correctly on, even on PC's without any Stardock products. You can't even say no to the forced update, it just does it! Leave it up to Microshit! 

As far as reinstalling your Stardock products, I can only give you my opinion. Make sure you have the latest updates to all software and only install one at a time, rebooting between each install. Personally, I think you should be fine, but I certainly cannot guarantee it.

No problems with the Anniversary update. 

Install your apps, there shouldn't be any issues. If you do come across one, just submit a ticket about it so we can take a look.

The easiest  thing to do is make a restore point before you install anything. We know you need those Stardock programs back. So think about the restore point or just take the chance.

Dave...I had restore points, but the anniversary "update" is a bit of a misnomer. It's actually not a "patch" it's a huge update that is essentially a new OS.

For that reason my computer can't be "restored". Too bad they don't tell you about that before the Update...nor tell you they're migrating stuff and not to turn off...

Acronis True image isn't that expensive. I do a scheduled image of the system every day and always have 2 versions availble. Always a wise move to have all the data on a second partition, so the system is restored quickly. Although the anniversery update didn't hurt my machine at all apart from some small apps I already have informed the programer about (Bins for example).

Doc is right. The anniversary update or upgrade, depending on your perspective, is a complete OS. I didn't uninstall anything. It all went smoothly and the only hiccup was with IP but that was soon corrected.

As a side note: Not to hijack the thread. If anyone uses iobit's smart defrag don't update it with the pop up. I did that and there's a trojan attached to it. AVG caught it and the update did not install. I went to iobit's website to get it. The install is completely different from the pop up update.

Also, if memory serves, the install of the update/upgrade does say you can roll back if you don't like it.

Carl is correct. Use a full backup, system restore will not help.

Pretty much mandatory for anyone claiming to be a 'power user'.

3 of my 4 machines on 10 are 'Pro' so the update can be deferred....so I have.

The 4th I'll test the waters with first...;)

Do I have to uninstall my SD products before the update, or can I take a chance and just update?

You don't have to but just to be on the safe side do it. I didn't and had no problems but that isn't true for everyone. Err on the side of caution.

gef... Start10 works just fine with the Anniversary update (AU).

Shouldn't bork anything, and on my clean install of the AU gave zero problems.

Just in case, make a disk image on an external device and a recovery disk...

OD 1 plus would not install......I am aware it's an old unsupported proggy, but it did work before the update. WB, fine. Start 10, fine.

Damn computer started freezing up after the update (explorer.exe) and I wasn't able to do anything. Did a rollback......oh crap! I rolled back to factory settings....... thought I would be stuck with windows 8.1! Strangely the rollback seemed to fix all my issues but keept the W10 anniversary update! It simply uninstalled all non factory apps. Dunno, it's working fine now!
