New faction ability and survey options.

I think it would be great to add a new faction ability: the multi-specialist ability, that allow to research all the specialized technologies.

For example, a player can research only one of the following techs:

- Barren worlds mastery

- Frozen worlds mastery

- Aquatic worlds mastery

With the multi-specialist ability, the player will be allowed to research all these technologies.

I also think it would be a good idea to add options when clicking "survey" command to a ship: a list a of checkboxes to select the type of anomalies the ship will have to survey.

The player could check the following checkboxes:

- unguarded anomalies

- guarded anomalies

- precursors anomalies

If the ship will survey precursors anomalies and/or guarded anomalies, it will automatically engage the battle when exploring these anomalies.

Sounds good. However, the ability to take all specializations is a bit over powered. I would make it a trait but limit it to ONE tree only, your choice. Its not really a big deal for me. I play on gifted and by the time,  I get to a tree that has two or more choices I want I will see who has what and research what they do not have. I have almost always been able to get several specializations that I want (mining+1 & logistics +5) or (trade route +1 & +5 happiness) both here are good examples.

The only issue with your idea on survey automation is range and visibility. Usually by the time you have Survey modules  you should have sensor tech to see a bit further. You cannot survey what you can't see. Setting a Survey to only Defended precursor relics only will give you a ship that stops moving after a few hits.  I think we would need better survey tools for automation.

Another idea is to plead with Stardock to divide up our galaxies into sectors or quadrants and then you can tell a ship to 'Survey all anomalies in Sector 11B'.

Just a thought.

1 sounds like a MOD could do that. Research a tech that opens all choice techs so they can be researched.

2 is a good thing to add. Right Stardock.

Eh, maybe.  Just thinking about how to do it though makes me break out in hives.  8C

The main problem, as far as I know, is how the base game treats any tech that is tagged as a Specialization.  As it currently stands, again as far as I know, a tech is a specialization or it isn't.  If it is a specialization, it is subjected to certain rules that I don't think are modifiable by us lowly peons.

I'm not entierly sure what triggers one can put on a tech to make it researchable outside of techs themselves.  If it is possible to play with that, it might be possible to set up some ridiculous branches that might do this sort of thing.

I suppose looking at Ave's DeSpecify might help a little, but there were a some issues with it in regards to trading techs, IIRC.  I never really did come close to understanding exactly what he did there, which is why I went in an entierly different direction for my Generalized Tech mod.

I would like a survey option that makes the survey ship stop at the anomaly and doesn't survey it but to go into the idle-queue. The reason is, that some anamolies finish the current research or give 25% of the current research - if the survey is automatic you risk loosing that advantage because the current research will be finished in the next turn anyway.

about survey  - add checkbox - avoid/explore wormholes

Add checkbox survey guarded anomolies for ehen you have armed and unarmed surveyors.

May be it would also be a good thing to display guarded anomalies in different colors. For example the guarded anomalies in dark red, and the precursors anomalies in purple (the same color than the precursors planets).
