Android tablets lack tge cpu or memory requirements for gc3 and would need tons of work to port gc2 I'd expect.

I Waa expecting this to be a thread asking for tablet compatible controls for one of the higher end win10 tablets like a surface book or something if it's not already

I would still pay for a gc2 version. Seeing the competition gc2 should sell very well. I would point out that this probably be less complicated than making a new game, or an expansion which he has plenty of teams dedicated to games. Which once he made the game I'm not asking for continuous support as long as it doesn't crash. I would mention that thisIs a market that they would do well with producing quality games.

Yes, if there was a simple way to port GC2 Ultimate to a modern Android tablet I'd buy it even if it couldn't do the larger maps.  I would even pay $20-$30 or more depending...  A lot more depth than most tablet games out there that you could buy for $5 or less so it would be well worth the money if it was :).

On a side note, I did play GC3 in early beta/alpha on my son's Android tablet via my computer.  Screen sharing to tablet.  It worked okay but, touch screen controls were clumsy.

Paul said in the Anniversary stream that there are no plans for a mobile version of the game, even stripped down to tiny/small maps, since they feel that there is no way that they could make money in the market as it currently stands.

Whether or not they ever change their minds and/or Brad has a different outlook only time will tell.  But at the moment it doesn't look like it.

Sellore is there any way to pull that off again.

there are a lot of ways to control pc stuff from android devices. I think gestureworks gameplay is one

Is gestureworks an app.

The remote app I had that came w/ my motherboard and downloaded on my tablet doesn't work now that I upgraded to Win 10.  I would have to boot from my Win 7 HD to get it to work.  I guess there are other apps out there but, I haven't tried as of yet.

If I get a chance I'll try that over the next day or so and let you know more specifics if it works.

Tested by booting via Windows 7.  I was able to use Remote Go (App/Program) and successfully run Galactic Civilizations III 1.8 on my computer but, play it on my android tablet.  Several downfalls is obviously you are still really doing everything on the computer it just appears that you are playing it on the tablet with the remote connection, although sound/video are all there and looks great.  Other downfalls.  No easy way to adjust zoom level w/ the touch screen.  Would have to adjust the ship movement controls for doubleclick or left click otherwise couldn't move ships.  If I could get it to work correctly on Windows 10 I may spend more time on it trying to get it to work better but, as of now I can confirm that it does work from Windows 7 via the Remote Go program that came w/ my Asus motherboard and was free to download the app from Google Play via my Asus Android tablet.

Not possible, a new top of the line tablet would not meet minimum specs for Galactic Civilizations III.  Even if you had a Windows 10 operating system installed on the tablet it still wouldn't have enough power to support it.  At this point the best thing would be to run through a computer.  Even if you could get a basic computer for say $400 it may not run the game great and may not support the larger maps but, may be able to configure it to allow you to run it remote.

Another option if you have a family member who has a computer and, they aren't using it you may be able to set up a vpn connection to your tablet and run it remote through that computer but, that would be tricky.  Either way the tablet in this case is just essentially the monitor/mouse/keyboard/speakers, the computer is still doing all the thinking/processing of the game.  Maybe eventually they will come out w/ a Galactic Civilizations type game for a tablet but, with most tablet games going for around $2-$5 it would be hard to make it profitable.

Although like someone said above if they could take some graphics from either this or Galactic Civilizations II and slap together a basic game w/ little man hours put to it yet still make it worth while then who knows.  Until then this is the best I got.

Porting is not simple. And target market share is critical.

Especially between mobile, desktop, and console.

In particular for Android/iOS, there are exceedingly few tablets able to meet the minimum specs for GC2, let alone GC3.  Remember you'd need a minimum of 1.5GB of RAM, and something less than 10% of the tablets have that minimum.  And, of course, spend a signficant amount of time figuring out how to completely replace the UI.  Which doesn't even address the problem of whether or not any tablet CPU is sufficiently powerful to handle something like a 4X, especially since GC2 isn't super-threaded so individual core performance is still pretty important.

Frankly, Android and iOS are right out, since the number of tablets which meet the minimum requirements can't even be enough to possibly make back any investment (which is several engineer-years, I'd guess).

Possibly Windows Tablets might make sense, since they have a pretty good chance of making the min specs, and there's not a lot of UI porting to be done. But I'd have to see what the total potential market would be, and I don't have a good feeling about that.

That may be, however, several things that prevent this from working...

  • Android OS is different than Windows 10/8 (One would need to have Windows 7/8/10 to play this game not supported on Android nor will it easily adapt to android).
  • Minimum Memory requirements for GalCiv III is 4 with recommended 6.  (Most Tablets only have 2 or less)
  • Direct X 10.1 or better to be installed

I would love for this to be possible and, would like to say do this and it will work, however, standard tablets are not powerful enough for this game to work solely via the tablet.  I only know of the way I suggested above to allow you to play the game via the tablet yet still have the PC hosting and running the game.

There is also the amount of L1/L2/L3 cache to makke a gigantic difference.  I recently bumped my box from 2.2phenom to 3.0 athlon x2.  the extra 800mhz makes a little difference for sure, but the extra cache makes a wildly improved difference to remind me of jumping from a celeron to something with more cache years and years ago for a similar jump.

When the chips are new & easily keeping up with the needs, that cache is much less noticeable than later when they are getting significant load.  the cache is another place the tablet isusually going to be behind on.
