FOUNDERS update: June 2016

Sometime next month you're going to start receiving access to the beta of the first stand-alone expansion to Ashes of the Singularity.

Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation

Here's what's new:

  • Episode 2: Escalation (tells the story from Haalee's point of view)
  • New World classes: Lava Worlds and Crystal Worlds
  • New Defenses: PHC Eliminator anti-air, PHC Constable (cheap anti-air), PHC Oblivion (super nasty artillery), PHC Odin (super nasty direct weapon), Substrate Exterminator, Substrate Pulverizer, Substrate Shredder, Substrate Starburst, Substrate Disruptor
  • New production buildings: Substrate Aviary (for tier 3 air), PHC Advanced Sky Factory
  • New aircraft: PHC Strategic Bomber, PHC Marauder, PHC Instigator, Substrate Harbinger, Substrate Rampage
  • New units: Substrate Caregiver, Substrate Masochist, PHC Sapper, PHC Hera, PHC Brute M2 (will replace the M1)
  • Replays
  • Huge map size
  • Support for 14 players on a map
  • Global View: Zoom out and the map changes to a situational map of the world. You will be able to give orders to control groups and it will give relative strength of armies. We may allow players to give orders to armies as well (which will show up as a heat map)
  • Multiplayer compatible with base Ashes of the Singularity (no community split, ranked games will get to use all the units always, custom games will have whatever units the host has).

Price: $39.99 new (includes base Ashes and the above), $19.99 upgrade for people who have Ashes (Free for Founder Lifetime edition).

Target date: September 2016.

f i understand correctly, the most-recent expansion will always be available in ranked. So players can buy the base game and get all the map/unit upgrades for free for use in Ranked?

That is stupendous.

As long as they play ranked MP, they'll have the same experience as the Escalation players.

Well, that is quite the cool addition, no doubt. I propose a new price option though, $39.99 new (includes base Ashes and the above), $19.99 upgrade for people who have Ashes (Free for Founder Lifetime edition), $14.99 for Basic Founder

The only sad part of reading this is that replays aren't coming till then.

Is this under NDA?

Thank you for the Global view! Just played Frontier in a 2v2. It is a large 5 player map. First time playing it today but it is a really good one. The point is though that it is quite exhausting to try and keep track of everything. Someone suggested it could be made into a 3v3 to make it more manageable. Either way it will be even harder with huge maps so global view to assist with that is great news.

wow Brad, You nailed it with Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation

Congratulations.

I was working on my Mockup for the Global Zoom but I guess you wont need it anymore...   :'(

I will love to see Coop Scenarios in the game, and what about the Steam Workshop?

And still waiting for non Ranked Automatch for custom 2v2- 3v3 - 4v4 - 5v5 - 6v6 - 7v7 games

Having the options to enable/disable a checkbox for each option that I want to play

(example: I will enable 2v2-4v4-6v6 auto-search, whatever option get available first the game will get me in the game and play).

If you enjoy doing it you could finish it and show us. Might give the Devs an idea or two :).

Being standalone this will have its own Steam store page. It makes me wonder if you will increase the minimum and recommended specs? Perhaps RAM to 8GB for minimum and a 6 core CPU for recommended? I guess that would depend in how well you get huge maps working on a high end 4 core. If you ever do list 6+ cores for recommended I'd try and push that back for a later expansion. Then at least Zen will be available and assuming its price is reasonable then 6 cores will actually be attainable.

Huge maps with water for true combined arms is my dream. But this expansion pack adds a ton and will really mix up the game, can't wait.

i do hope they nail the campaign first time around..not that i care much for it but a lot of time have been spend reworking the first one..so hopefully this wont happen on episode 2 so more time is freed up after more other stuff.

We are working on the Escalationi campaign now.

It is currently going to be comprised of two episodes and both take place before Imminent Crisis.

Anyone want to volunteer some character names?

I'm a lore ignorant but I bet Perry Rhodan 'd have some success. Unless it's copyrighted.

Ahhh yes!  These extra defensive buildings/air units really seem like they will give us a much more rounded out experience. (excluding naval of course)  Might I suggest that you chose one map to be a "test" map in which players who don't own the expansion can play with the new units before jumping into ranked with them?

I'm never a huge fan of stand alone add ons i mean look at the mess elite dangerous made with there's, but as someone who plays games mostly against ai, I have to say I really am enjoying the ranked games, only on occasion would it pair me against someone rank 1 when I was 8.   I assume that's lack of players online, so this kind of incentive seems to me only a good thing for encorging players into the rank que.

with regards the update, I get the impression that the move to add a more global view and the extra units seems based on devs actually playing the game, finding weaknesses like how hard to control it can get on larger maps for instance and addressing it as opposed to just adding features for the sake of content.  I think it's great work. #thumbsup

looking forward to those extra base defences on King of the hill :). Love that by the way.   I can not stop banging my head against a wall.

BTW, how to activate AotS all the DLCs on Steam for Lifetime Founders edition? I've noticed that only the Overlord DLC is present at the content list currently, and everything else is offered for extra money.

I've heard that you can restart STeam and it'll show up.

I've already tried this and nothing changed. I've also heard that there's some additional key that 'upgrades' AotS on Steam to Lifetime Founders Edition, other than one listed in Stardock account, but I have no idea where to look for it.

weird, i havent had this issue, all the dlc just downloads on release day for me.

yeah mine all seem to download fine.

Slowly but definitly moving to your own flavor of the strategic zoom  :inlove:

Will the change from map to situational map differ from what we have when hitting space bar ?

It would be nice to have the same map without this horrible overlay, simply displaying groups of units.

According to the road map on the Steam forum the Escalation Expansion is going to be $9.99 for people who already own the game, while it is listed at $19.99 above. Can you confirm which one is correct?

Edit: If the price is now $9.99 now then fantastic...if someone missed the 1 off the front by mistake then I suggest you get onto it very quickly before it becomes the expected price. Already a thread about it on Steam.

Thanks frogboy I asked this question on the vault thread....

Founder lifetime players get all this for free of course.

is this still a thing? If i have Escalation and my friend only has the base game we can still play Escalation together so long as i host the game?

  • Multiplayer compatible with base Ashes of the Singularity (no community split, ranked games will get to use all the units always, custom games will have whatever units the host has).

No.  We ran into dire usability issues the moment we started testing this.

The stats of units in the base game are different in Escalation due to balance changes.  We are going to be talking to the community on how best to handle this in the future so we can see under what circumstances we can let both games play some version together.
