Freeze, Freeze, FREEZE!!!! Almost every time I play it freezes!

locked up, froze, have to restart computer

Ok, this is getting very old. Almost every single time I play the game freezes up either at the ending just after I win (I can click through the game stats/graphs at the end but then nothing) or after I play for 10-15 minutes and want to quit the game I click on the menu and click exit and then nothing. 

The music keeps playing. I can click cntrl/alt/del but I am not able to click on anything an the desktop. I can click hover on the bottom of the screen so my auto-hide taskbar pops up and I can click on it but the clicks do not register. the ONLY WAY OUT IS TO RESTART MY COMPUTER......AND THAT MY FRIEND SUX SPAGHETTI BALLS!!!!

I submitted a ticket four or 5 days ago and still have not heard anything. It has been freezing up since I first installed the base game without any updates. Each update I was hoping that it would be fixed but none of the updates have affecting this issue.

 

I have Windows 8.1 x64, i7-3770k, GTX670, 12GB ram.

Where was the game downloaded from?

I had this problem twice. To avoid restarting your computer set the game to Borderless Windows Mode. This means that you can hit shift+ctrl+Esc and the window appears on top of the crashed game and you can then close it from there without restarting the computer. I did a benchmark with Full Screen and Borderless window mode and suffered no performance loss. Also I haven't actually had the problem since I switched to borderless window mode. Not sure if related or for some other reason.

Finally I can post a reply....Kinda silly to limit how many posts/replies new users can have. Makes it pretty difficult to explain an issue or more than one if it is so.

 

First let me thank Ticktok for helping me out. I am very grateful for your recommendation to use the borderless window mode. I tried it and it seems to be an ok workaround. I still would like it fixed if I play this anymore.....Kinda lost it's charm now that I have been called a thief.

 

Now to answer your question Island Dog. I bought my game from GoG. The update I got from my cousin because it was not shown on GoG. I had no idea that you guys were treating Steam customers with special priority status with the updates and DLCs. Sorry for trying to update my game, but YOU ARE VERY WRONG FOR CALLING ME A PIRATE AND A THIEF!!!!! AND you deleted my support tickets that I had been waiting 4 or 5 days for. 

I was really becoming a loyal Stardock customer until this happened.

You are not on my nice list anymore. You ruined that right out of the gate.

He wasn't implying you were a thief. He was trying to find out whether it was the Steam or GOG version.

It's not about priority, it's about finding out which underlying library might be involved.

Lockups like this typically happen due to overlocking (CPU or GPU) OR sometimes due to the GOG Galaxy overlay (but not that often).

The DLC is only available via Steam. Per previous correspondence, it does not appear you're using a legit copy and therefore we will not be lending support.

You admitted you got it from your cousin and that you didn't pay for it.  It's probably freezing because you're missing something.

I'm kind of surprised that you don't get the concept of having gotten something from "your cousiin" who "downloaded it off the Internet" doesn't make you a customer of it.

Frogboy....What the heck are you talking about??? I said I BOUGHT MY GAME FROM GOG!!!!! Island Dog asked me where I got the update from and I told him I got it from my cousin...Not the game, the update. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!!! 

This is absolutely ridiculous that I have to put up with staff and fanboys calling me a thief.

Oh yeah, and my other thread on this support forum was deleted as well. Stardock 

I saw that an update came out but I did not see it on the GOG website. I got to talking with my cousin and he said that he had already downloaded the update and would send it to me.......I installed it and here we are...End of story. I would have never guessed you would only update half of the customers and make everyone else wait.

I had no idea that the update was ONLY FOR STEAM. How is a person supposed to know? Do you see anywhere where Stardock informs anyone that the update is only for Steam??? I do not see it listed anywhere at all and I looked very hard since this all happened.

Plain and simple.....Stardock has put Steam customers at the front of the line and everyone else suffers I guess.


FYI, I do not have any overclocking going on so that is not why the game is freezing. (I really have no idea why I am even telling you this or replying to this thread anymore....I just don't feel the love to play anymore anyway)

So, I got a message from support saying that I pirated the update.......

 

Since when do we have to pay for the updates? Every game I have ever bought came with updates. I have never had to pay extra for said updates.

What? Gauntlet is DLC (expansion) to the base game that is completely optional, but costs money. You are still getting patches and updates to the game you bought. And Gauntlet IS available on GOG now. Copying the DLC from your cousin is not OK, since it's a separate product that costs money.

Closing this thread, but first....

Original poster made thread complaining that the Gaunlet DLC wasn't complete. After attempting to help it was determined that the Gaunlet DLC was obtained "from the internet" given to him by his cousin. That is most likely a pirated copy as it was only available on Steam at the time and is not something you can just download from Steam and give to someone.

This was not an update, this was paid DLC. Updates are provided free and are made available on Steam or GOG. GOG might not always go out at the same time as Steam as they have different release procedures.
