Low FPS and heavy microstutter at high-end PC.

ASUS X99-PRO; Intel Core i7-5820K; Two Nividia TITAN Z in SLI; 32GB RAM; The game runs from a fast SSD-drive; Motherboard-integrated audio card.

My Computer.

ASUS X99-PRO.

Intel Core i7-5820K.

Two Nividia TITAN Z in SLI.

32GB RAM.

The game runs from a fast SSD-drive.

Motherboard-integrated audio card.

My experiences are based on the Tutorial Mission and the Benchmark.

In short; the game has some very aggressive microstutter and an FPS that consistently stays below what common sense would dictate. It doesn't appear to matter much whether the game is displaying a crowded clash between a screen full of figures in the Benchmark, or a single structure and an Engineer in the Tutorial Mission - the game generally hangs around 40 FPS, with a particularly aggressive microstutter that makes movement look excessively jerky and unpleasant.

The game is played on a single monitor with all graphical features maxed-out save VSYNC, (disabled.), and is being run in DX12-mode with SLI enabled.

In order to save everyone's time, I'm now going to answer as many obligatory stupid questions as I can think of. If there's any I've forgotten, please ask, and I'll answer as best I can.

Yes, I 've tried playing with SLI disabled.

Did you disable the SLI between the cards and between the two GPUs on each card?

Seems similar to what i'm experiencing with my single 390X.

Thank you for the replies.

Did you try DX11?

I tried not playing in DX12-mode, if that's what you mean. I'm assuming I was then playing in DX11-mode?

To answer your question; it went pretty much as expected. In other games I've had where I experienced microstutter, it has always been an SLI/Crossfire-issue. So playing in non-DX12 -mode, (thus being unable to select the Multi-GPU -option in the Settings-menu.), and running the Benchmark, the microstutter was either gone completely or so reduced I was unable to notice it. To compensate, of course, the overall FPS took a significant hit. Strangely, though, not as much of a hit as I'm used to taking with SLI disabled. Usually, the FPS drops by around half. Here, it "only" dropped by 10, or so.

Yes, and the game wouldn't start. The only way to play without SLI was to play in DX11-mode.

I've had similar issues with other games. The fix (for me, at least..) was flipping the switch from power savings to max performance on my geforce 980.Not sure if this'll work for you, but it's at least worth a shot.

Right click on desktop and open up your nvidia control panel

Click "Manage 3d settings"

Scroll down until you see "Power Management Mode"

Select "Prefer Max Performance"

Click apply, and close the control panel. If this works, be sure to post back and let me know =)

The most common issue I've run into with micro stutter are apps injecting themselves into the DirectX 12 process.

To cure: Check your system tray and get rid of anything that might do that.  For me, Raptr did this along with play.tv. Geforce experience does it too for me.

Thank you again for all the replies.

Now that the game is out, I thought I'd revisit it to see if anything was improved. Sadly, it appears not to be the case.

Didn't seem to have an effect for me, but thanks for the advice.

Of those you listed, I only had GeForce Experience. I'd been thinking of getting rid of it for some, so I went ahead and did just that. It didn't seem to have an effect, either. Like I said; it has for me personally always been an SLI-issue, as far as I'm aware.

I've had issues too in DX12 mode, see the thread I started yesterday...

The game is fine in dx11...... Tried DX12 on my desktop computer with GTX970 and its fine, just my laptop in dx12 mode.

I know the game works on on my laptop in dx12 as this problem has only occurred with the latest build.

Our problems don't seem connected, at all. You should probably stick to your separate thread for your separate issue.

Your problem is drivers.

It is well known that Nvidia are a fair bit behind AMD in the development of DX12 drivers, particularly with asynchronous compute, which with Nvidia drivers at the moment can cause stuttering.

Ashes runs a lot better on AMD hardware.

You are just going to have to wait for Nvidia drivers to catch up.
Shouldn't take long though.

I noticed Geforce Experience doesnt recommend Max settings on my GTX970.  We may be pushing beyond its capability.

You need to turn SLI off in the Nvidia control panel first.
