Initial Game impressions

Hey Gents!

I started playing today and after 8h of gameplay I feel more frustrated than entusiastic about this game.
Now now, don't be rash, this aint a hate-post, but legitt feedback.

The game seems to have a solid base. It feels as its more macro oriented than micro. Obviously the balancing issues will nerf/boost different units, but the lack of micro managment in this game is somehow interesting and entertaining.
Some bugs appear, as with all Beta's, ie HP pool on enemies dont drop untill they die (If its supose to be hidden, don't show it at all!), some units get stuck and I can stack buildings on the same square of I queue em up correctly.

Balance wise; The starting tactic atm seems to be abit unfair tho, if you are fast enough and send your engineer imidiatly to cap a node, as well as the first one created, you get 2 nodes for free. The problem with this is that if you are abit late, or misclick, you cannot get those 2 nodes and you've wasted too much time to catch up.

If you don't do this start, and the enemy does, you will be too far behind to do anything (as is my impression). Every time I pull it off, I have much more units.

Now, the most frustrating part. I'm not sure if it is a legitt bug an exploit. I've encounted on many games that clicking on a unit, sometimes, makes me locked into not being able to click anything for 2-3 sec. If this happens while you try to rush a node, goodbye game...
But the funny thing is, often my workers stop what they are doing, and it feels as if I'm "locked out". This is what I mean about it might be an exploit. I've seen something simular before, where the enemy player was able to controle (from warfog) your units if he marked your starting area and clicked S. That would stop your units. The main reason I suspect something simular is that I'm not clicking anything on the keyboard and my mouse tells them to go or build, but they stop and do nothing. Also, this only happens in PvP, not single player.

I'd love to hear back on any of this!

Cheers!

The number of starting strategies is considerable in this game.

Rushing to get that extra node with your engineer can help. On the other hand, using that engineer to rush build a second engineer opens up a lot of opportunities as well depending on the map.

I like that we have multiple starting strategies, but I feel the same frustration that OP does: I commit to a strategy, my engineers show confirmation (blue path), and then stop in the middle of nowhere for no reason.  Then I fail to get that second node, and I've wasted a lot of time.  But I know it's possible to do because I've done it before!

I wish it was straightforward (with low risk of failure) to execute a viable, chosen strategy so early in the game... are you hinting that we're just doing it wrong?  I know what I'm going to try in my next game to find out :)

That would be frustrating. Does it happen in SP or just MP? If just the latter perhaps it is lag. I noticed in a 3v3 the other night a fair few commands weren't getting through on first click. Triple clicking for every command not my favourite method of play :)

I did have a revalation today in MP. I seems if I double click some times, the command is cancelled. Also, if I click to fast, the registration of the order is not taken, so the engineer does not move anyway. This ends up with click, wait wait, click. If you spam click, it cancels anyway, fml! xD

Another thing, as the big maps give you 3-5 fronts at the same time, how are you supose to attack a fortefied position? I find no units to be at all effective vs a turret location. If I rush 1 or 2 places with a generator, and don't cap it but build cannons, I never lose them, and vice versa.

Am I building wrong units?

If you find yourself facing lots of defenses (basically any time at all late game), just spam Arty or Destructors.  TBH, you could get away with spamming both of those almost exclusively (less so for substrate) after certain times in the game.  The units are just so good at long range murder.
