Can we have the map floating in space..
And then underneath the map the background could be something like a sun, exploding star, warp hole, or something..
Make it interesting.. I want that epic..
I think it would be nice if the map continued and faded out at the edges.
The maps are only a small section of a planet, currently the largest maps are only about 0.0002% of the surface area of earth, so there isn't much reason they should be floating around in space on their own.
Unless...
Ah, Terry Pratchett, a man with an interesting imagination. A very pretty image of it.
Supreme commander 2 actually had a nice way of dealing with it with some of their maps, enriching it by showing more around the area you were in, sometimes like a painting, showing the battlefield within a greater context.

I new that the calculus at school had a purpose.. to work out the surface area of a game map compared to the Earth
