I actually really enjoy the Steam controller. However, I can't stand most controllers in general (hence why my go to for ports that require controllers is a ps4 controller. I don't even own a PS4

). However, in regards to Star Control, I'd hope there's at least SOME form of controller support, since SC1 and 2 both had joystick support.
I don't own a PS4 or an XBox either. I'm PCMR too.
I needed to buy a new controller because the battery in my Dualshock 3 blew up. I was on the fence between buying a Steam controller and an XBox Elite Controller. What sold me on the Elite was build quality. While I'm a big proponent of the Steam controller's thumb trackpads (since I'm a thumb trackball user), I thought the rest of the controller felt cheap. The Elite feels solid and elegant. I paid 4x more for it ($200 total for the controller, the wireless adapter, and the battery pack), but I felt it was worth it.
I hope that the success of the Elite causes other companies to offer first party high-end controllers. I would love to use a Steam Elite controller.
Regarding SCR... They will have controller support. They plan on releasing the game for the XBox One in addition to the PC.
