How do I set an in-game avatar?

At the moment it is the same as your Steam profile picture.
If your Steam profile is set to private in your Steam privacy settings we're not allowed to show your avatar picture.
You can modify your Steam privacy settings following Steam Support's instructions here: link
Once you set Steam's profile privacy to "Public" Ashes will show your profile picture in game. In the next release of Ashes you'll also be able to filter leaderboards to show just your friends too!
