Game won't start

Hi,

I am trying to play Ashes, and the game will not start for me.  It seems to crash before it can initialize its graphic environment

User Directories Created
Executable Path : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ashes of the Singularity\Ashes_DX11.exe
Graphics::EnumerateAdapters Complete

InitTime: Network::Init = 36
Crash Reporter Initialized
InitTime: Console&Resource::Init = 1
InitTime: LoadConfiguration = 0
InitTime: Audio::Startup = 74
InitTime: DoCreateWindow = 19

I have:

Intel i7 975

6gb ram

AMD R9 200 series graphics card

Windows 7 64-bit

I know the 6gb is below system specs, but I wanted to at least see the game, even if it was slower.

Can anyone help?

Normally I would expect the game to still run, even if slowly and at a horrible framerate.  Is there some sort of check for 8gb that causes it to exit if it doesn't find that much?

If so, I will have to get a refund, I guess.  Too bad.

That is indeed what you would normally expect from most games. When the game first loads I believe it loads a lot of the assets upfront. It takes a while when you first load it but it means when actually loading and starting a match it is very quick. Perhaps in the initial game loading it really is just programmed to expect 8gig and doesn't function without it?

Or it is possibly a bug. There is meant to be a patch out today so perhaps try again after that. If it still doesn't work then, then you can either wait to see if a dev answers this thread (with bug thread they are quite good at appearing) or get a refund.

Apart from having the latest drivers installed you may wish to check your systems virtual memory/paging file is a decent size as I read making it larger/OS controlled fixed a problem for some other people who either had "no paging file" selected or only had a tiny one. It may be particularly important with your lower RAM level. You can put it to system managed or look up the best size for your system. (a quick google search suggests it should be 1.5 times larger than your system memory. so that would be at least 9gig for you)

Hmm... I tried increasing my virtual memory size to 9gb (the file is on an SSD, so it should be fast), with no change.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will wait and see if an update helps.

I had set it to 6gb physical and 9gb virtual memory, and that didn't work.  I'll up the virtual memory to 32gb, just to see.

you also have to have a minimal amount of virtual ram. It's 8GB PLUS virtual ram not 6 + 2GB of virtual ram. virtual ram is not RAM.

I'm curious. Where are you getting this requirement? I don't see it on the FAQ. And I can't imagine a game requiring someone have virtual memory, especially if they have plenty to support the game.

Thanks.

It should still run.  We have 8GB as a minimum but it should still load up fine even on a 4 GB machine.

Can you post a dxdiag?

I'll take a look at your crash log (should have been submitted automatically).
