What is up with the medics?

I assign a medic to a shit, but the stupid medic circles around it, and then goes right in front of the ship where the enemy first is.

They should have some sort of defensive mode where they hide.

They are really kinda pointless, as soon as you are in a fight, the medic jumps right in front of the battle. The ships are too slow to return to a medic in another area. The medics should be able to travel with them.

I think (hope) you meant ship :)

Yeah, hopefully they will move medics more towards the middle of the group. Close enough to heal those infront but far enough away from the action to avoid the brunt of it.

Unit movement with Medic's really needs improvement. I had a game using 7 different battle groups. Medics were a completely different group, and I left them in the back of the lines to send a group to my medics as hp's dropped. The medics then decided to start moving on their own, all the way to the front of the line, and were annihilated in moments. Even if there was a way to turn off auto-repair, it would be counter-productive. At least in this instance, they lasted for more than 30 seconds once my full-scale invasion began.

If you leave your medics at the back of the group, you will never be able to get your damaged ship to return to get healed as your ships are so damn slow.

Ok, I worked out the medics.

You need to set them separate to the meta unit, and then have them at the back, then attack, and then bring them into the middle of your meta units.

It works really well.

Did you try making an "army" and not just a group?

What do you mean an army?

I was just going to say, when I say that I made the medics as a single unit.. I man I CTRL+2.

So that I could control them. If they are one with the meta unit, they will have their own mind.. but I found if you have plenty of weaker units in the front, the medics tend to stay back a little from the front line.

V makes a group into an army.  Armies ahve a built in AI that allows them to fight better as a group but they move (point a -> b) slower

I know that is a meta group. But medics act strange in meta groups. Sometimes they go to the front line, and thus get destroyed
