Fighters on Carriers

Does a fighter or drone ever get replaced when it is lost in battle? Why not allow resupply or ship fabrication to replace lost fighters and drones. After they are destroyed the carrier is basically useless.

Thanks,
Don

Mid-battle? No. Post-battle, though? Yes; my experience has been that it seems as though carrier fighters are replaced after every engagement, though I've seen others indicate that it takes a turn or two for carrier fighters to be replaced.

If you're suggesting mid-battle fighter replacements, then I'm very much against this. Carriers can already be incredibly strong; improving them by making them spawn replacement fighters mid-battle is completely unnecessary and would require significant changes to the fighter system (not that that'd be a bad thing). If you're suggesting post-battle fighter replacements, this would seem unnecessary to me since in my experience fighters are replaced after every battle anyways, though as I've seen others indicate that it can take a turn or two for fighters to be replaced there may be one or more bugs involved.

I've had carriers go into battle with partial loadout, but its rather rare.

I believe there's a few rounds max of downtime before replacement fighters are generated.

It takes 2 or 3 turns for fighters to be replaced.  That is a change on how it was done, but not sure when it came in.  Only noticed it fairly recently.

Anyway to customize which fighters are loaded onto carriers?

No

YOu can't customise the carrier fighters in game, but you can do it with the XML files.

I agree they should't be replaced during the battle. In my last game, I noticed that my fighters were not getting replaced after a battle. But, I was sending the task group into a battle almost every turn for about three or four in a row.

It would be helpful to know how long it does take to replace.

Thanks,

Don

There's a variable in GalCiv3GlobalDefs.XML called FighterTurnRepairRate, which is set to 3 in v1.3 (and probably v1.4, but I haven't opted in). This would suggest that the intention is for fighters to be replaced after 3 turns, though whether or not it works like this and whether or not carriers have a reserve of fighters that must be destroyed before they're out of fighters (and what the limits of said reserve, if it exists, are) is not particularly clear. There's also a variable called FigtherRepairPotency, which is also set to 3 and might be, at a guess, the number of fighters restored each FighterTurnRepairRate turns. I am not aware of any other variables pertaining to fighters which might have something to do with their replacement rate. It's also not clear if these variables are per-ship or per-component.

Don't know why, but after 1.4 all my 'assault fighters' are now escort role, and most other ship classes have changed to escort/support roles.  Made an excellent campaign unplayable.

I've noticed that fleets with repair capability replace fighters faster out of battle.
