If you never heard of Infinity: the Quest for Earth you would be surprised by the scope and scale of the I-Novae engine(real galactic dimensions with highly detailed procedural planets for every single one of the 400 billion stars in the game). Now, after an incredible time in development, they scaled down everything to just a single solar system, which I feel is a good choice. What is exciting about this game engine is that the developers can, at any point choose to add massive portions to the game and scale it up, potentially over the years increasing the size of the universe (which has already been in development for years already) to potentially have the first, fully featured, no loading screen space game that could boast the most detailed universe yet created. Everything about Flavien Brebion's decisions have been about long term, sustainable development, which, in my opinion, is going to be the only effective business model to creating an incredible, vast, detailed universe to begin with. This game already looks quite good, and the developer still want's to add more development time onto it.
To say that I'm excited to see this kickstarter actually happening is a huge understatement. This company is the legitimate real deal, in it for the long haul. Star Citizen may have pretty ships, but I question it's replayability, without successful scaling it will burn out quickly. Infinity: Battlescape will have the ability, at any time chosen by the development team, to scale up in a massive way, back in 2006 this guy was rocking a MMO game engine that could support a 200 billion star galaxy with highly detailed planets with no loading screens. They may make a whole new game for this, which would make sense, the point being that I-Novae Studios is a company to look out for in the coming years.
