UPDATE: Strange behavior of Deskscapes Beta 8.49

Can't select a dream through Explorer

I cannot apply a dream by double-clicking on it in Explorer.  However, doing that with the configuration program running sets it as the selected dream but does not apply it without clicking the button.  I can keep double-clicking on drams in Explorer and the configuration program will update the "current" dream.  I ran the Stardock Purge Deskscapes bat and reinstalled but nothing has changed.  Check that, the first dream I choose with a double-click after areboot now is applied but subsequent dreams only update the configuration program.

I have to ask, why not just use the configuration program? That is what it's for.   ;)

I find scrolling through the program very slow.  If there's away to show the dream name besides hovering over it I might like it a little more.

When I download a new dream.  I used to be able to click on it in the Chrome download tray and install and apply it.  Now I have to start the configuration program and find the dream I just downloaded.  I also keep the dream folder sorted by date so the most recent ones are on the top.  If I download several I can easily switch betwen them and decide if I want to keep one or all of them.

Now there's a good point.

WindowBlinds offers the option to always show the skin name.

DeskScapes should offer the same option.

Just for info, Greg, what OS are you using?

Hey Greg, I just double clicked a dream file in it storage folder, and it applied and runs fine.  Windows 10 Pro, fresh install, no added codecs, yet.

Just to let you know it does work for me.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.  I have not yet installed W10 because of the WB incompatibility.  Waiting for the fix first.

Where is the storage folder?  I keep a folder on c:\ called dreams.

I understand. No offense, but I can't believe there are so many people basing their OS choice on a Stardock product.

I love WindowBlinds, don't get me wrong. But I can wait for it.

I won't base my choice of OS on a third party product.   That's just me.

EDIT: Well, I might if I couldn't run Photoshop, or some other important program, but not just for a " looks better" program.

I keep mine on a platter drive, not on my SSD. But the default directory is in Public Documents, as with all Stardock products.

I double clicked one in the place where I store them. Worked fine for me. On 8.1 as well. I have no Windows 7 anymore, except in a VM.

Windows 7 works well for me.  My wife likes Windows 8.  I have not yet upgraded either PC.  I feel no urgency to upgrade even if it's free.

I felt no urgency, especially since I can have both my old OS and Windows 10. But remember, Windows 10 can only be gotten for free until August 30, 2016. Unless MS changes it's mind.....

I knew there was a year cutoff.  I guess I can download without installing it?  Ort does it do the install at the same time?

You can have it install, or make an ISO, or flash drive. But you'd still have to install it before Aug. 29, 2016 in order for it to be free.

Be sure to get the right edition, Pro-Pro, Home- Home, etc.

I'm having screen flickers/glitches with this version on Win10. Guess I'll need to uninstall it and await the release.

Update:  after more than a week of back and forth emails to support, they've confirmed the problem.  Seems it is very slow applying a dream from Explorer.  A couple of times I thought the dream eventually did appear but wasn't sure.  I will have to use the configuratioon program for now.
