Multiplayer rules

Hey Everyone,

I have recently started to play this game a bit and have to admit I am a bit oblivious to the rules for online games. I have been doing some 1v1 with a bloke I work with and we have been running the following rules on a small random map:

 - Capital Victory

 - Normal Start

 - Normal Fleet Size

 - Fast Game Speed

 - Pirates Active

My question is, what are the generally accepted rules for 1v1s? Currently our games go for about 3-4 hours before there is someone clearly getting the upperhand (we aren't great, but we're getting there).

Further to this, I have a workplace game of a 10-player FFA coming up. What rules should we run for this? I was thinking:

 - Capital Victory

 - Normal Start

 - Small Fleet Size

 - Fast Game Speed

 - Pirates Active

 - Teams Unlocked

If this sounds like a bad idea, how should I change it? (apart from playing a 10FFA)

Well, if you're just playing with people you know, it doesn't really matter. However, these are the rules typically used in 5v5 PVP games (the most popular competitive format in Sins for whatever reason).

* Quick Start

* Standard Fleet Sizes

* Fast game speeds

* Pirates Inactive

* Locked Teams

Basically the settings are designed so that games finish as quickly as possible. Usually there are no formal victory conditions applied, but once a team gets a clear advantage the losing team is expected to quit so that everyone can get on to the next game as soon as possible. Since the teams are picked in advance, they are of course locked. Pirates are typically seen as a distraction, and partly luck based which is a bad thing in any competitive game.

Of course, if you're just playing for fun use whatever settings you like.

Awesome! Cheers GoaFan.

The pirates was the main thing I was curious about. After our most recent game we discovered that it was almost 90min before our fleets started to skirmish because of the bloody pirates.

Quick Start I wasn't expecting, I guess I'll have to have a couple of games to get used to all the extra resources at the start.

You don't actually get extra resources per say with quick start. You get a capitalship factory, resource extractors and some more homeworld upgrades at the start of the game. So basically it saves you a few minutes building the most basic structures you get every game.
