Custom faction icons?

I know this has been brought up before but I looked aroundand read through other posts and I couldn't find an answer that worked.

So, it would be really awesome if I could add custom faction icons and maybe even custom portraits to my game.
Anyone know how I would be able to do it?

I don't play online multiplayer at all, just by myself, so don't worry about that.
I have loads of image editing programs and I can make .ico files and such if that's needed.

any help would be appreciated

Look at the RaceLogos.tga file and all the textures that start with "Player_Portrait". Easiest thing to do would simply be to replace your least favorite logo/picture with your own. That way all your changes could be done with an image editor.

Oh, and you should probably do this as a mod so you don't change the core game files.
